...Great news as so many Tridents and P50s have gone overseas since the Weiner auction so it is nice to see one coming back.

really?  exactly how many P50s have gone overseas "since the Weiner auction"?

seriously.   I don't know the answer to that.

Jeff and Susan Lane bought Mike Shepard's that he had advertised in RUMCAR News awhile back.
No one in the UK seemed to want it.
They take it all over the place and I would say it has a pretty good home now.
That's the only one I am aware of that went "overseas" since 1997  (but I'm not really tracking them...).

Quote
Interestingly the red P50 that was on E-Bay over a month ago also sold to a UK buyer despite fears that it too would be lost overseas.

really?  Who was it sold to?  I heard that it did not sell. (even though it looked that way)  I also heard the SELLER wanted at least £18,000 for it.

Also- The UK Trident that was "sold" in May on eBay for £35,000 did not sell. (although it appeared to)  And it didn't go overseas.
I wrote an article about in the Current Issue of MICROCAR NEWS that just came out.
The article goes into great detail of how the Market Value of an Item can be manipulated by BOTH Buyers and Sellers for different reasons.
I find it interesting that there are people wringing their hands that the value of the cars has gone up and they seem to put the blame squarely on "Wealthy" people or just Americans in general.  But the Trident auction had a RESERVE price on it.
The RESERVE was £35,000.  It was put there by the SELLER, not by the BUYERS.
So who is the "problem" here?  Buyer or Seller?

The "high bidder" on the UK Trident auction "backed out" after the auction was over.  What a surprise!
You won't know the identity of the "high bidder" because the auction was "Private".
gee, I wonder why the seller wanted to keep everyone's IDs Private?
You don't think it was to bid the price up to and past £35,000 do you?  Gosh, who would do a thing like that?

hmmmm...  Look in your own backyard and I think you will find the source(s) of sky high prices.

You are of course right Jim, most of us saw through the ebay sham but we dont all blame the Americans for high prices, as I remember some of the highest prices paid at the weiner auction were paid by a certain wealthy Englishman. I hope the rally at Kens place goes well, any chance of me getting one of those stylish tee shirts? Give Ken and Sylvia my regards, Bob Purton. p.s. Tell him to get on and restore that Inter!

If someone has a Peel for sale and someone else buys it, what is all the fuss about? There seems to be a lot of Green-Eyed people about!! ;D

So does P50 in fact own the yellow P50, who is now rumoured to be bringing the Trident back home to England?

I do.

Footnote.

There is another Yellow P50 but I believe it was painted in the early 70's. I don't know what colour it was when it was delivered. A Chinese Harley Street surgeon used it to get to work. It is the sister car to Gordon Fitzgerald's 7038VU. I think the Surgeons car is 7037VU. The Peel went to Australia when the Doctor emigrated sometime later. It is apparantly still in Australia with the Doctor. I think Gordons chassis is one down from mine. P50MAN a true manx P50 is if I recall one up from mine so all four of these Mk2 P50's are in some way, shape or form closely related. Oddly enough the engine number of my Trident is two below that of my P50. But that as they say is another story..

It is simple my man. You will see 'additional options' script when you reply to a thread, Click on it and voila an attach box appears for you to browse for a pic in your files..

What I would like to know is, is it possible to reduce the KB of a picture so that it comes within the limit and so can be posted?

the general answer is YES, but I don't know if the Forum has the capability of doing that automagically.
Generally you have to do it on your own.

If you can't adjust the pics yourself, try this free on-line service:
http://imageshack.us/

they host it for you too.  There are others out there, I am just not familiar with them as I adjust images myself to suit.

Whenever I try to explain to someone how to do it themselves (like I do), I find it's easier to just have them email me the photos, I reduce them and send them back...
happy to do that if anyone wants me to.

It all depends what software you have, if you're using a digital camera or even a scanner, the software you installed when you bought the product will have an editing application, there will be an 'edit image' menu, it's probably easier if you reduce using the percentage option.

Hi everyone,

You should get it fit for next July. That is when the IoM Manx Heritage Motoring Club have their annual meeting at Peel.

20 Peels were there last year for Peel 40. Meaning 40 years of Peel Tridents and P50's.  10 went this year and it wasn't even a 'Peel Engineering' biased event.

I think every July at the town of Peel going forward will now be a Peel Engineering show as well as the usual classics on the IoM.

Not the cheapest of shows to get to but worth it if you're an enthusiast!

Hello P50,
course im an enthusiast of Peels. I bought my Trident 19 years ago in bit and pices, no dome, wrong engine. Anyway, the restauration tooks me some month, and it is in good condition now.
Would like to go to the IoM with the Peel, but its so far from my home, and it will take a long time.
Cheers

Well you'll be pleased to know I bought Franks Trident!  I have the bits for the Bing vergaser he lent to you. The choke sleeve and a spring.

For the forseeable future I fear mine's the only Peel to come back to the UK.  I fear the law of supply and demand will ultimately tempt owners to sell to the highest bidder even if the car isn't for sale. If high production American muscle can make milions of dollars then I fear Peels being so rare will be used as a commodity for the uber rich at some point in the future. I suppose time will tell. If £100k was placed in used notes in front of me I'd decline. How could I replace pair of genuine Peels?

I'm extremely pleased Frank kept the V5 and it had not 'dropped' off the DVLA's systems. I've now registered it in my name. Things in the UK are toughening up with regard to 'discovered' cars off the radar. Have you got UK papers for your Trident?  It is of no consequence if the car is abroad but hugely important in the UK.

If you can't get your Trident to Peel next year you can simply fly in.  I might go to the IoM later on in the year. I think the island's a beautifull place.  Like England in the 60's..
