Title: Whats this off of please?
Post by: Bob Purton on April 26, 2008, 04:00:06 PM
I just took this off a scootacar but it clearly does not belong, I have a suspicion but can someone tell me for sure what this blinker switch is from? Tally ho, Bob (http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z184/rumcars/blinkerswitch002.jpg)

I am sure that its from an early Frisky Coupe or Sport  ???.John Meadows is the man who could confirm. They are similar to the switch used on all pre 62 Scootacar Mk1s

Thanks Grant , that was my first hunch and earlier today I looked at the More Bubblecars and microcars book by Dave Sparrow page 49 and there it is on a four wheeler Frisky. Mystery solved!

However not wanting to split hairs here, the one in the Sparrow book has a short stem like the one for my Frisky (right) whilst Bobs appears to be like the other one pictured, having a longer stem. This is one part of an after market switch that clamps around a steering column, I wondered if these longer version were used on microcars.

Thanks Mike. Now I see there are two types I am beninning to think that perhaps it belongs to the Scootacar after all if what Grant says is correct. I think it is going to be hard to find a replacement red plastic section unless I mold one myself. I notice that the later scootacar switch with the black base plate and smaller illuminated knob can be bought now as a pattern part, it comes with the steering column clamp but that part can be removed leaving the base plate to be screwed to the dash. Only £15 and choice of red or green light. May not be exactly the same but very close! I think I will use one on my MkG Bond/invacar/Tourette/scootacar/Gordon/Nobel/Inter/goggomobil/Rayonnah replica. Honestly, you guys, talk about jump to conclusions!

Dear Bob

Is it me, or have you already answered your own question!

The switch is off the dashboard of your Scootacar.

Problem solved

Thanks Chris, Yes I worked it out for myself in the end, its just that I have only ever seen the other, later type on scootacars before. We live and learn!

Hi John. Its raining here too. I found the speculation all rather amusing really, the only thing that is actually going on in my workshop at present is the preparing of my Moto Morini Tresette for its MOT. Will let you know when something exciting starts to happen. Tally Ho! (http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z184/rumcars/IMG_0007.jpg)

Funny, its not raining here in Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire. In fact the sun's been out all day  8)  & the tempriture is in the mid teens. I've just got back from looking over those two conveyances at Wickwar  ;D  & it was somewhat scorching in their yard when taking the pictures....

I have one of these on my early Mk1 Scootacar - if you have a brochure for the Mk1 this is the switch shown  ;)
also I have a different light switch to the later ones (also shown in the brochure!).

Thanks for that, the documentory evidence confirms it then! I know its the proverbial needle in a hay stack but I'm on the look out for the replacement red plastic part for mine. Any help appreciated.
