Title: Battlesbridge Grand Motorbilia day 28th sept 2008
Post by: Bob Purton on August 30, 2008, 12:10:00 PM
Just got my vehicle pass throught the mail today for this great end of season event. A small group of rumsters had a great day back in may at Battlesbridge, why not join us with or without your microcar or classic bike. Let me know if you are interested.

Good, thats three so far, I have P50's very special bespoke pass prepared so I hope he is joining us. Maybe in the scootacar this time?

That pass was good!  I'll come.  Too far for a Scootacar I'm afraid by road.

If it'd dry then the KR'll suffice.  Maybe even my Mk3 Regal.

I forgot about the Regal! I have never seen an early reliant at the event before, it would go down a storm! I was thinking of trailering the Inter there as it still wont be registered by then, I guess you could do the same with the scootacar? Are you going to the National  Perry?

I can't speak for Perry but I'll certainly be at the National, any good samaritan want to offer me a ride on the run out?

Yep deffo at the National. Bet it rains!  Hoping to trailer kr there. Seems to be behaving itself the last 5 mins!  Should be a good event. (mike, no promises but if my mate's not coming with then i'll have a space in the kr and my normal car up (down!) there. Got one more micheline for me perchance?!...

Cheers Perry, though I'll be driving myself there Friday maybe Saturday, worst comes to the worst I'll have to sit in a field all day Saturday or join the convoy in my Yaris  :-\. I thought you'd have found another michelin by now, unfortunately I'm keeping the others.  ;)

Hi

Not sure if my mate Jon is coming to the national with me.

If he cries off due to family comitments you are welcome to a lift, and this time I will try to get around the whole run

John

This all sounds promising, I was looking for a ride with someone for the run myself. Never been in a Hondaienkel or Perry's pocket rocket!

OOOOO!  Stuart, you little teaser!!! Now are we talking about a P50 or a shopping basket sporting trident? or even a Mopetta with perspex top?

Hi

The engine cooked up after about 15 miles.

I had bought the car with a duff head-gasket, but it hadn't shown up before because I never went more than about 5 miles in it before the rally.

Better luck on this event.

John

Hi

I will be on my lonesome at the rally, so unless I get a better offer ;) I will have 1 spare place for the road run.

I am going to arrive Friday early evening as I will have to do at least some work on the Friday.

See you all then

John

Oh dear,

Looks like I looking for a ride out on Sat now.

Bob, I assume as it's going to rain you'll be taking your KR?

(My KR has charging woes. The Scootacar wiper motor is frail and I fear if pressed into action will promptly fail!)

Sigh...

It looks like it Perry. I have franticaly been repairing and sealing the Inter petrol tank this week with a view to taking it , now having turned my attention to Primrose because of the wet weather expected I discover her MOT has expired! So long as it doesnt fail on anything serious I should get it there. My wiper motor makes bad electrical smells but hasnt blown up yet! Maybe they all do? I'm sure we will all get to go on the run one way or another.

I'll be there, we'll have to arrange a time to meet, I doubt I'll time it as well as last time i.e. arrive just as you're driving into the grounds.

Hi Mike and Perry. I'm undecided as to which car to take, if I trailer the Inter I will see you there, if driving primrose we can drive together Perry, and Mike, if you wanted to get to my place you could ride tandam! Will let you know soon. Bob

Try reading Bob's last item (the one underneath this one) in a slightly camp voice and the message takes on a whole new meaning.

What a great day out at Battlesbridge, microcars in attendance included a Mk1 Scootacar, three KR200's, three Bond minicars, one trojan, and probably other I didn't see. Sunshine all day, wonderful! Next year we are planning to get a microcar club stand/area so we can all display our cars together and maybe this will encourage others to bring their cars along.    Bob

Trying to find you lot!

Was not impressed by having to queue for over half an hour to get in. KR's etc are not cut out to idle for ages. They get hot, fuel vapourises and plugs foul.  When I got to front of queue the show was full!

Hold on I peered in and saw modern porridge parked amongst the classics.

All in all annoying but it was a good show.

Lesson learnt..  Get there early...

I'm still puzzled as to how you actually got in after it was declared full and without a pass!? Apparently is was the highest attendance ever probably on account of it being such a lousy summer, good weather was forecast and folk saw it as the last chance of the year to get a good show in with some sunshine.

Dear Blob

Looking at the excellent photo of the blue scootercar it is possible to see through the windows what looks like somebody leaning through the window of the Bond next door and doing something, while the shifty looking (Kevin) bloke is acting as lookout or looking for Perry.

The figure leaning into the Bond looks to be wearing light blue shorts and black tights, could that be Perry. Or is something else going on??  I need to know?

The day was a cracker and I bet the organisers were pleased  with the turn out.

Stuart, I cant remember the number but the car is owned by Phil Bowler of Southend, its a fairly new restoration so you may not be familiar with the car. He did an excellent job of it but like all mk1's it is let down by a poorly fitting door, they seem to warp with age.

Chris I think you could be right, Perry was wearing white leather laden-hose on sunday and Ken Bell did say he had his radio nicked!

I got in because my  car is a micro.

Thus I blagged entrance through the back and easily found a spot to park TYD.

N.B.   Bowlers Mk1 is superb.  Very hard to get them that good as you can't get the bits. Doing a KR is a breeze in comparison.

Easiest of the lot is an Inter.  Parts availability like a '72 MGB Roadster!....

Dear Bob

Thank you for that explanation.

But why was Perry wearing white Leden-Hose, does he have a heavy sprinkler problem? or is it something all KR200 drivers wear when riding tandem?

I do hope Ken (that name rings a bell) gets his radio back with all the knobs intact.

Chris, Im not sure, you would have to ask him but it may be something to do with our last trip in convoy to Battlesbridge where due to unexpected speed bumps in the road we both nearly came a cropper! The leden-hose was proberly worn as a precautionary measure in case
of more accidents this time.

Perry. Just glad you were able to get in to the show especially after that mamoth que!  Sorry about the above , I'm just humouring Chris as he is clearly a bit kinky!
