Title: Street Legal Bumper Cars (Dodgem Cars)

Here's a new twist on the micro-car. Old bumper cars are now being converted for street use. Check out the personalized plates on the bumper cars. They all appear to be from California. (I wonder if the California DMV had any idea what they were approving for street use when they issued titles and plates for these creations.)

Still, I'll bet these bumper cars put a big smiles on the faces of their owners and other California motorists.

I read about these before and yes that is what they are doing, but quad bikes are not normally street legal in the USA, ESPECIALLY in California so they are apparently doing other modifications to the vehicles to fit them within the loopholes of the laws. I am pretty sure they are all registered as KIT CARS as well since the laws governing them are much more lenient than a quad bike or a car (or a bumper car).

The ones you see in the pics are the only ones that exist, they are made by a family and just family and friends ride around in them for fun. They are not making them for other people to purchase.

Yep, does looks much better than a usual quadbike. Sadly immpossible to make it roadlegal on german streets, though.

These road legal quads are notoriously dangerous though, quite a few youngsters have been killed I'm told. I love these bumpercar specials and at least whilst they are making these they are not cutting up vintage cars to make full sized V12 hotrods, melting the ice caps etc etc. [Hotroders in uk/europe are just as guilty]
I seem to remember Andy Carter putting a petrol engine in a dodgem and his kids driving it around at the national some years back, anyone else remember that? Any photo's?

He brought it to Störy in 2002 and it caught fire.

this dude might wanna go easy a bit as it might topple on a bend!

(on a serious note whilst they're interesting IMO they're just faddish. take one quad and bolt something on top. et voila, you have a quirky machine. hardly innovation..)
