i was wondering how to expand my profile on the forum i.e. sex, age, interests etc but how do you do this ? whilst looking at other profiles i find that we are not even all listed- never mind known as a real identity. looked for kitty 76 and as of now there is no entry in the members list under that name at all - how come

I have no problem revealing my identity to all the fine people here, I am Brian, and so is my wife   (Monty Python)

marcus = Captain Bubble = Marcus de Mowbray

But of course my real name is Tony Blair

It would appear that Daniel Rodd aka KITTY76 has rather suddenly decided to leave the forum and delete the account.
That is why you cannot find it by searching. It no longer exists.
(actually it does, all the threads are still there, but KITTY76 is listed as "guest")
I have changed permissions on all accounts so this does not happen again.
This also prevents problems if someone gets on your computer and deletes your account for fun.
If someone really has a good reason to delete their account , ask and it can be done.
alternatively if someone thinks leaving and being able to delete their account is a good idea, please let me know.

Thread Bear was a deliberately obscure name for the fun of dropping a few acid drops before folk twigged it was me, Alan Hitchcock. Now I am kind of stuck with it even though the joke and topics are long since dead. I ought to change it to something more appropriate really, like Big Al. Not sure how to do that.
Interestingly there is a reason for eBay names to be obscure. It often pays not to offer to much info or the dodgy types will be round to lift bits since you are advertising swag to stolen in their minds. Unfortunately the same dodgy types use the multiple names to do unspeakable naughty deals and scams. I am not sure RUMcar offers huge scope for trade though it does have info on who has swag so could be used for the wrong reason. However that is what moderators are for and I would think they would pick up on most odd behaviour patterns. Is there a policy for periodically spring cleaning the IDs on the site to remove those no longer used? I happen to know several folk who never post but read the forum to know what is going on so some of those apparently dead names are mute but observing. Each to his own.

Sorry to shatter your illusions Alan, but myself and at least one other forumite twigged it was you from your very first post, your character shines through the verbiage!!!

As in most things, pretty visable. It was worth the effort though. Is forumite like formica, acid resistant?

Yes, plus your photograph was a dead give away :D :D

I think to change you ID name you go into your account settings. I have never tried it but I think thats the route.

no policy at the moment, no reason to remove them really.  They don't take up much space, just some 1's & 0's.

Would it be of interest for the forum to let each other know what is in our collection?
Now i know some people might not want to advertise they have 20 cars in one lockup, but even if the list was annon, it would just help some of us relevant newbies to learn more on cars we have never seen or heard of.

Post by: adi on January 27, 2011, 01:40:55 AM
I am actually Adi, I ended up with that name kind of by accident, nobody quiet knows why. People just started to call me that when i was a kid, and now I am officially adi.

I work in the great cesspit that is the music industry, and in my spare time i mess around with old cars. It all really started because old cars are interesting, and they are cool to drive around in and turn up in and make an impression, and people notice them, you know, something different. New cars are boring. My friend has a V8 merc, sure its a very comfortable, powerful, fast and nice to drive car, but nobody pays any attention to it. People always notice the various things I drive.

just because now since  30 years family, friends , and customers calls and knows me ( worldwilde ! ^^ )as jean-do ...

Dear Jean Do

Good to hear from you as always. I do not know why we are encouraged on forums to adopt pseudonyms, as we have nothing to hide. Is this the same in France?

I agree with you that my name is my name and it will always be, and I have no reason to adapt a new name. However like most people I have followed the trend. Perhaps we should rethink this practice. Does having a pseudonym (handle) protect us from criminals and low life, or does it protect them from us?

Changing the subject slightly are there any magazines printed in France that specialise in Microcars like Rumcar News?

This looks about the best place for an intro as any?

JK4644 = 1934 Rytecraft Scooter-car used pre-war by what is now Caffyns Garage in Eastbourne as a run around to deliver small car parts. Car was rescued in mid 70's by current owner Alan Jones (my father) from a school that had taken it apart and messed around with it. The car still carries its last tax disc dated 1972.

I first drove the car when I was just 16 months old. At 18 moths old I was photographed driving the car by the West Sussex Gazette who ran a small story on it.  The car was never quite as it should have been as when it was acquired it had no floor, brake rods were not fitted, and it was in a pile of bits. Quite a lot of guess work was made to get the car running and driving.  Thanks to a recent web search I found this forum and a thread on the recent auction by Coys of the microcars.  An almost identical car was in that auction and those photos were exactly what was needed to get our car restored correctly.

To sum up JK4644 = Merlin Jones, son of the current owner Mr Alan Jones of Worthing.

a big Plas-ticky hello from a ''arm chair'' Bonder - one day this century the dreaded 875 will take to the tarmac , bought as a runner back in the late 1970's , rebuilt it was the family car until the end of the 80's , replaced by a smart 750 Robin (nuff sed  ;D )  that's when the Plas should have gone - but there was space in the garage , and low and behold restoration was under way , all moving bits and most none mover's have been replaced , then the chance to buy a front damaged Imp sports (875) , and after reconditioning lots of parts ....
up until now the 1.1/8 inch drive shaft's / gearbox have been fitted ...

Welcome Plas-man! Fear not, there are many armchair enthusiast on this forum. We live in hope that all armchair enthusiasts will eventually convert to microcar owners, incidentally that doesn't include Bond 875's of Reliant 750's [like them as I may] as they are far too big and powerful to be under the microcar umbrella.
Welcome again and enjoy all the rumcars fun and banter!
