Dear Emma

Good to hear that you have space at the NEC Classic Car show in November. However the 14 November is the editorial Deadline for submissions to Rumcar News for the Winter edition so if you want to get the new Bambi in that edition you will have to let Tony Marshal ( Editor) know well before that date. That will mean text and images. If you want to have the full 21 century Microcar treatment then that may have to wait until one can be road tested and that would mean it getting into the Spring 2011 edition at the earliest.

Good luck

Chris Thomas

What a great idea.  Reduced entry costs can be obtained by quoting : CLUBS10 for individual tickets and : CLUBF10 for families but don't tell every one !.
The NMCR stand will feature a host of the smallest and rarest of the Microcars as well as the new creation(s) of the Evans family, Bambys little brother ???.  Only time will tell  :o
The Heinkel Trojan Club and Isetta Owners Club will also being displaying their finest vehicles as well.
See you all there then ?

Fear not Chris,
Lord Cyphus (he of Bamby ownership), Rumcars roaving reporter of NEC events will be in attendance on the NMCR stand on Friday the 12th and will no doubt have the article e-mailed to Tony before the end of the day as he has done in previous years.

It looks like another chapter is about to be opened in both the history of the Micro world & that of the Bamby on Friday 12th November 2010 at the NEC.  I'll be there, right up the front, with camera & notebook. Woun't keep me away now. And yes, the report will probibly be done that very night as in years gone by, for it's a busy (non-micro) day on the Saturday & the train's don't run properly on the Sunday. Back in 2009 I hit the "send" button sending off the report of the first NEC stand to Tony at five to midnight the same night, which just happened to be the issue deadline.   ;D  I forecast much the same this year.  Just show me the cars. That's reward enough......   :-*

Still not keen on the NEC especially after boshing one of the security guards sparko when I was doing courier work years back. Just like Beaulieu security it seems standing up for myself proved I was right and they were wrong and thus wasting everyones time for no good reason than hassle and cash. Consequently it is on the list of places I do not go unless I have to as I do not like bull***t and overcharging (unless I am doing it of course). Once again I know a lot of others who likewise refuse to do the NEC after hassle and rip offs. So take care to get correct ticketing and be carefull to sort out the correct car parking procedure or they will try and charge you extra cash and seize your car. Otherwise enjoy and bon chance Evans.

Now Lads it looks like I will be joining you all on Friday as I will be in Lincolnshire on Thursday and just happen to be coming down the M42 on the way home on Friday.

Please do not change your plans just to avoid me. The NEC is a big place and there is more than enough room for us all. Some of you I know well by sight, Others I have not met before, and  I may well pass you by in a crowd. But I look forward to putting faces to names when we do meet up. Lets hope it knocks spots off Retromobile.

I hear that Baynards leap has opened again. Does anybody know the new name and address? I may try and drop in there on the way up.

See you there

Chris Thomas

I cannot comment on the opening of the collection. They normally closed for the winter at Byaird's Leap. However I know the intention is to have a collection to put on show for next year. The new address is near New York - the real one complete with an umpire, a building in a state, Downtown, man with hat on, central parking, Wall's treats and stuff.

And theres more folks....   :)  Just in case you can't quite gauge the size of the new Evens Minimicro's, here's a shot of that well-known face about town (I can't remember his name!  ;) ) trying one for size before placing his order for half a dozen...   8)

Meanwhile, a general view of the stand, with the Lambretta Linx making its first public appearance for years. Took us ten minutes to find the engine in it when somebody wanted a closer look...  ::)

And making its public debut, a jolly spiffing Brutsch Mopetta, & not necessarily the one you all thought it might be...  ;)

Ahhh! More toys then. All that build up for nothing! I agree with Marcus, they look well made but not the return to a road legal production microcar that we had hoped for.
Title: Re: THE BIG LAUNCH
Post by: marcus on November 13, 2010, 03:01:01 PM
Actually Bob, part of me is relieved that they ARE collectables!
The current legal requirements for new road-going motor vehicles are so tough that it would be incredibly difficult and expensive for a small company to be able to meet them. Then they would have to produce the cars at a reasonably affordable price, then they would have to maintain enough sales to keep a production line going.

This was not easy in the 50s and 80s, and nowadays even mighty corporations like VW, BMW, Ford, Honda and Toyota keep saying they are about to release a new 'schmitt or 'setta, but even they cannot get the price/quality/legal requirement ratio to work out.

Over the years various small companies and individuals have tried to market a new micro, but usually their dreams have been shattered. I think the new Evans creations look superb and probably WILL sell, as toys/curios/collectables/PR displays and just plain Small Objects of Desire, and therefore stand more chance of success than if they were "proper" cars.

Besides, they are the right size for me!

Er, but I don't quite know how Carla is going to fit in with me!

;D  Belive it or not, the cars are fully operational, just like the real thing, to quote the publicity handout. They're powered via a 50cc mini quad bike pullstart two-stroke engine. Full suspension as well, with disc brakes. The canopy lifts as you would expect, as does the engine cover. Full welded steal frame & mix of metal & fiberglass body panels, the tub being metal, the rest fiberglass.  Look, you know you want one, drop Emma a line & she'll sell you one....   ;)

well there you have it folks, some of you who put 2 and 2 together and came up with 3 may be a little dissapointed that it is not a bamby mk 2,but the minimicros were much admired by all and we recieved some very positive feedback over the weekend. i would like to thank everyone for there support and a very big thankyou to the NMCR for letting us invade there stand at the last minuit, well done guys, great job!! i will post some  pics  and some info when i have fully recovered from the beer we consumed . we have a website under construction and should be up soon. aswell as the TG and KR we also have a mkA bond under construction and will soon have an isetta in the range all in 2/3 scale, which is an ideal size as an average size adult can drive them! planned future models include a scootacar ,berkely, frisky to name but a few. all cars have a chassis number and come with a certificate of authenticity, are handbuilt by dad and myself and can be ordered in any colour/trim . ;D

It is just like a pub restaurant. The kids get the best menu! Far to good for the little swines!
Remember folks, you got to collect them all.... Got to be a viable business hasn't it? I would be slightly worried if was looking at garden Peels now as the pricing of the Evan's Angels is very competitive. The best thing is these compliment the real cars rather than detract from them. There can be little reason to not support the project.

As my auntie Dulce would say "Those girls will catch there death of cold!"

I also wish the Evans's every success with there venture although they are not for me. I'm sure there is a market for them out there somewhere but will microcar enthusiasts buy them, I cant see it unless they have kids and lots of spare money, maybe all these millionaire collectors who have bought microcars for investment but never drive them will want them for their display cabinets ;)  They look fantastic and deserve to sell!

Stuart,
In my defence, as the designated Health & Safety advisor for the NMCR stand at the NEC I had to ensure that no harm came to the public, vehicles or lovely girls.  Therefore I had to ensure the said lovely girl(s) and equally lovely Mopetta did not come to harms way so a step ladder was required for entry and exist for photographs.  Having attended the 'Manual handling and ladders' course I am all too aware of the risks of step ladders so bravely put myself forward to steady the said step ladder and provide a hand to all who had photographs taken in the 'Worlds Smallest Cars' which were displayed on raised plinths.  Sadly a few 'associates' thought it would be amusing to take the odd picture of me carrying out my HSE duties.
I rest my case :-[
