Post by: Bob Purton on April 02, 2011, 04:03:40 PM
Just heard from Dave Arnott that its not at Stonham Barns this year but just outside of Norwich on the first weekend in August. I dare say Dave will give us the details later.

New Venue....Anglian Windows Sports & Social Club, Horsford Manor, Holt Road, Norwich. Norfolk

Well Stonham me, what a life. I was aware this was to happen. Probs with costs etc. and a move is no bad thing as it opens up new areas to explore. I was talking about the preservation line up at Sheringham where they have 'the Bubble'. A double ended powered carrage, which they gleefully placed available and held for the BUMS trip to the line in return for our cars being parked outside. I think they were pleased someone liked it rather than the steam engines.THen there is the pub with an E type jag engine in the fireplace and exhaust going up the chimney. A diesel powered preservation lines, etc etc. I recommend you do not miss it.

I will just make a comment so that I keep updated on this one. - Shame as Stonham Barns is just a few miles away and I could have driven there.

Yes, shame for me also because I used to rent a little caravan adjacent to the site.  I think the site rent was an issue two years ago for the last one and as we know here in rip off Britain prices only ever go in one direction, UP! I really liked the site, there was always plenty going on there for other family members who were not so obsessed with microcars as we are. Hengrave hall was also one of my favorites. Still nothing stays the same forever, we will see what wonders the Anglian windows club house has in store for us! As Al said it will at least open up new routes for the run outs.

About an hour from me Bob (in Suffolk)  - just above Norwich.
Is there a date?

Ah I forgot to mention that. 5th to 7th August. I notice that its adjacent to Norwich airport, does anyone know if this means we will be deafened? Is it a busy airport? Do they land and take off at night?

Dunno but I realise it is about 2 miles from an ex Girlfriend with now attendant small person. Ooo eck! (broke up as she moved there expecting me too as well, why? Strange folk are females).

Not a busy airport at all. I am pretty sure there are no night flights.

Great place to go and play, then!

I shall certainly be playing there! Having missed Bath and the national clashes with my hols as usual this will be my only Microcar rally this year. Hope we have a good turn out. Who's going?

You can afford holidays as will as buzzing and Thumper? Oh to live in Essex, land of plenty!
It looks like the National might be the only event I can realistically be active at now this year and that only due to proximity, bummer. Hope to get the Schmitt to local meeting at 'Duck' this weekend, all of 10 miles away! If I leave the house to long I risk returning to find the locks changed and my stuff on the pavement, illegal but effective bullying from family in deepening argument.....

Hi Ralph. I'm hoping to go too but only if the weather forecast improves. For details I suggest you contact Martin Galea  Tel: 01603 639268.
I know there will be a run out on Saturday of about 40 miles and another into Norwich on Sunday morning. May see you there.  Bob

When in Norwich outside Anglian TV you have to honour Nicholas Parsons. Well so thought the BUMS. This somewhat bought the area to a stop and we nearly got arrested. Great cheese stall in the market!

Cheese stall? Now your talking!!    Will we see you there Al or are you still barricaded in?

Partially barricaded and demanding accounts which have arrived in a foreign system to double book keeping so I have to decode this to see what it means, if anything, and what is missing/wrong. Thereafter solicitors at 10 paces probably.
Also I have two more Type 70 to prepare now along with a total bubble engine insert assembly and at least two Messerschmitts, soonest done soonest gone. The great clearout is under way. I spent a day yesterday clearing the access to my local shed and created two parking spaces out of throwing out, marking for disposal and placing out stuff not collected. Did you still need a gear lever? Found a Sachs gearbox too, deep joy. I think the National is the only event I will be attending now, though I might take a few sillies on Sunday rather than a Schmitt everyone has seen.
Hopefully the new area will see the EAMC rally do well. There is a lot to look at in Norfolk and lots of lanes ideal for microcars. One of my places to visit again.

Hi Al. Thanks for the offer but found a sachs lever and the spare engine is now long gone. Rather sad really as it was my last link the Messerschmitt world. Still, had ten good years of Schmitting, now, Norfolk roads , hear comes Thumper ready or not!!

Just returned from the Norwich Rally. Great new venue, airport not too intrusive, nice 40 mile run out on Saturday, short promotional run on Sunday into Norwich and the weather was kind to us. Alas no cheese stall in the city center! Thumper even won a prize! Many thanks to the Norfolk lads and lassies for organising it. Boooootifull!

That was hard cheese. But does the market operate on a Sunday? We had a BUMS bonfire BBQ at the weekend celebrating the incineration of 10 years of Captain Bondseye's business records plus a load of stuff I cleared out. As such BBQ in the garage flanked by Schmitt and Pod followed by crumbly Cheshire, tangy Cornish Blue, smooth Ementaal and stinky Le Rustique. Marvellous and Root missed it preferring to play with the 9th regiment at South Cerney replacing RAF Kemble, the event that wanted to charge Schmitters to attend. I don't think so! Just continue looking at the ranks of Marinas and Allegros and associated MG sports cars, yawn. Prescott yesterday. Whizz whizz.

Great weather, good vibe... although one too many speed bumps on the run out!  ;D

Yeh I second that, I cant get anywhere locally without having to negotiate speed bumps so was looking forward to the wilds of Norfolk and a bump free zone but no, we went through a town/village where I thought they were never going to end! Ooooh me' knigpins!  ;D
Forgot to mention that in attendance were no less that FIVE Scootacars! I think the entire Boyde family were there each with there own example! It looked like a passing giant had spilled some of his peanut M&M's ouit on the field!
