Nice, but too many lights on the rear of that schmitt! I guess it makes it different though :)

By the way, we ended up in Germany, going to Ludwigshafen autojumble instead. My dad even found a nobel door lock! It was sort of a duel between me and my dad, but he still spotted the best parts ;)

This is what I saw go by!

Heinkel piccy. That is not a modern picture is it? If it is where did you find that empty '50's road?

Messerschmitts. I did not realise you had to be so specific about your Revs when running in. Are the extra lights lit up if you exceed the red line. Arooogah! flash, Arooogah! flash, Thunderbirds are go, Its not a spare ring for a Bond this time Virgil.

I like the multinational road you found. Left to right, Irish main road, Belgium road to Eupen, Autobahn, French lane near undercutting river, featuring armco wider than road. On the other side is a scale model of Haarland and Wolf, Belfast to celebrate the floatyness of Icebergs after driving into them in big boats and Kate Winslet. As part of the installation it causes random collisions with a dusting of ice crystals, aah so pretty, so that the Council can keep accident figures in line with inflation and ensure a camera can be located to fine drivers of more money. Money used to pay for artistic installations such as this. You know it makes sense.
(THERE IS A 13 AMP PLUG ON THE NEXT BUT 3 LAMP POST FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO CHARGE UP.  WELL THERE WAS BUT NOW IT IS OUT OF ORDER AND WOULD THE OWNER OF THE DEAD SPANIEL PLEASE REMOVE IT.)

Meanwhile I had a break down day and failed to drive it anywhere. Hey ho.

Some nice pics there, cheers. I was down in Kent and DUF is currently off the road so sadly I was not out and about.
I have an extra brake light ( a long multi LED thingy) and two extra rear indicators inside my car at the base of the rear dome. All three are mounted on brackets which are Araldited into place so they can be removed without leaving any holes or alterations to the bodywork. The indicators are made of the round Wing-Repeater indicators from the front wings of an old FIAT, and each of these is fitted into a black plastic 35mm film tub to cover the bulb holder and wiring.
The idea of these is to make signals and braking more noticeable to following cars, especially as drivers are used to seeing modern lights much higher on the car.

Yes, taken on Sunday in Greenock, west of Glasgow.  Typical of many Scottish towns.  RPM942 is your kind of car Al.  Never been
restored, just used and repaired since new.  Its retains all its period 70s features such as a paint job done with a brush, embossed vinyl on the dash, extra rear lights and tinted dome made out of two broken domes joined by a fibreglass patch.  What a great car.  Will never win and prizes but who cares  :D

Best condition if you want to use them!

Out of the few cars I've driven, my dads first schmitt (2 tone blue) is my favorite to drive. I have driven a restored car (my brothers one) but even that isnt the same... Maybe its just because I feel more confident in a tatty one, that doesn't matter as much IF something happens!

Yes that is a great find. Just stabilise and conserve then enjoy. If at a rally more people will look at tatty cars than minters as the car has a story to tell.

Greenock, have a diary of a forbear, Johnstone - clan based round Ecklefechan and Moffat, who entered into the Herring trade from the base of Greenock. This bought barrels of herrings from Orkney to ship to markets worldwide. The diary is about his first trip up to Orkney by sail coaster in 1840 odd. Fascinating document. That apprenticeship lead to a general shipping business and then links with dominant Liverpool, which is where my mothers Welsh family were already doing business. Though they were always proud of coming from the Wirrall rather than Liverpool itself. After a few more generations there is the link of now middle class merchant venturers. Newspaper report on society wedding etc.
Never been to Greenock myself.

Interesting stuff Al, my Mum has letters from ancestors of hers who were trading with Macao, Tartary*, in the early 1700s, details of the epic sea voyages, the walled enclosures there where Dutch, French, Protugese**, and English*** traders were housed and only allowed out of for trading appointments and journeys to and fro. Most of the letters were sent from there, as they spent months at a time living there, and the letters are all Cross Written: lines of text running horizontally and superimposed vertical text to save paper.

* As in the letters, China

** Those Protugese are comin' only from Protugal (© Willium/Mate, Spike Milligna, The Goons)

It was ever thus. On success you are English. In defeat you might be English but more likely a defeated subservient celt or perhaps worse. That's why immigrants get the blame for everything and why they are allowed in by politicians.

In a similar until the Panama Canal was made people did sometimes take "America" to mean the whole continent of North and South America, but now "America" can be used to mean North America which includes Canada, or to mean USA and not Canada

Oh alright then:

Note passenger in first picture, the Studios cats LIKE getting into DUF, she jumped in through the sun roof and had to be chucked out to get on our way. The problem was that it was the day of the London Snickers and almost everywhere we went was closed off. The pics by the old dock at Curry Seas show our little cars after they passed through the barriers to keep normal cars out. DUF was restored from a wreck by a previous owner then me, the grey one is all original, even the paint.

I think I am right that DUF did not go to rebuild the damage done by fire. If so then all will be very pleased. There must be some idea of when you might be able to get it going again now things are more stable?

It's all up in the air at present. We are waiting for our insurers to settle the final bill and that might impact on any decision, and there is a lot of other building work needed for The Studios. Then there is the idea of getting a Berlingo or similar, this brought on by Carla's worsening disability, and then there is the fact that my various other activities, for example recording, are taking up so much of my time that I rarely have time to use DUF, or more importantly keep up to date with general maintenance and servicing. Not a good time to sell either. It's not an easy decision.

Ah! More life forces than just finance. It was ever thus. Many micros are not the easiest things to get in and out of either. Strange really as the Invacar etc are much the same size but of course the need for the access dictates the styling so much and that is one element of the Invalid Carriage that turns people off at the same time as the free design of some MIcros turns them on. All very frustrating. I cannot think of a sensible helpful answer other than winning the lottery or something.

It's not so much getting in and out that is the problem, but I have neither the space, budget, nor time to run more than one car (as well as shared ownership of a Suzuki Wagon and Patsy Transit), so a car which we could use for shopping, visits, kipping in etc. would actually be useful, whereas DUF is a great toy and I do use it for shopping and even business for which it is far better than any other Bubble...timpani or drum kits in an Isetta, KR, Bond...I don't think so!

I plan to delay any decision until after Bromley Pageant with Goggo and Bob.

Antiques Shop Rule 2; Do not say 'We had one of those new.' as it means your an old man now and are publicly broadcasting the fact!

Perhaps why I have only a couple of cars older than me.

When I reached a certain age I started acquiring nephews and nieces, giving me very good reason and excuse to spend quite a lot of time in toy shops. They have now grown up and for a while I had no good excuse. But recently I became a great great uncle* and will soon have another spell of spending more time than strictly necessary in toy shops.

* When first niece arrived I modestly decided that I was self-evidently going to be a great uncle, so now I am a great great uncle  ;D

No, absolutely true, I don't need to dream or make it up!

However the gig had been absolutely riotously good in the Two Brewers Pub, and I think that the heat in there had led the lovely ladies to refresh themselves with rather more alcohol than was strictly necessary!

The Fabulous Fezheads and their Audiences are LEGENDARILY thirsty. Faversham is the home of Shepherd Neame, the oldest and undoubtedly still one of the greatest breweries in Britain, and still run by the Neame family.

Their flagship pub is the nearby Sun Inn. Big crowds gather for the Faversham Hop Festival each year, where the Fezheads always play long sets in the Sun. One year The Sun orders 30 barrels for the whole weekend, but by 6 pm Saturday The Fabulous Fezheads and their audience have finished them all, and the brewery has to re-open to deliver more. Mr Neame gives us a tour of the brewery and a few gifts, he is very grateful for our business!
Being drummer and driver means I do not get to drink much, but then I don't drink much anyway so it all works out!

Some people who book the Fezheads offer food and drink as all or part of the fee.
Those that offer very large sums of money are much wiser.
20 mostly large blokes with a spectacular appetite for food and drink can empty bank accounts!

We are the Knights who say Neame. Neame, neame, neame! Fetch us..............a brewery!

It WAS fun, I did 10 years and it was a gas, but too busy with my own business and recording projects now. The Sand Dancers, stuntmen and some of the "extra" musicians can cherry pick which gigs they want to do, but a drummer has to do all or none.
