Title: Yellow bits?
Post by: thomast on November 10, 2012, 11:24:15 AM
Okay, a Trojan doesn't have to many bits but is still a puzzle. Since my car was already in bits when I was 2 years old. And put it back together when I was 17 (not knowing much). I seem to miss the following bits. The parts for the shockabsorber I can understand what they do but have no clue how they look. Can't find them on the HT-club parts-list. And the Ring with the spring. Is that just a shim to level the car?

22 is a gasket to keep steel away from aluminium as they will corrode. If this fails or is left out on rebuild it can be extraordinarily difficult to remove the spring from the inserted position and the breach area will corrode the casting to a failure. This seem more prevalent on later assemblies particularly RHD set ups which is one reason why special RHD casting are extinct. That and burks with hammers. Always make up drift tools for the inserted bushings. I tried selling some steering tools but no one was interested so no doubt they will continue to get broken. I know several RHD cars off the road with failed suspension and the owners prefer there cars disabled than to pay the going rate for their error of judgement rather trusting a bargain will turn up.

26 is the bump stop rubber with insert. Clearly that needs a corresponding washer set up the other side so it remains in position and un-stressed over its life. Not normally problem parts.

The Armstrong damper has a differing set of parts to the Boge but the assemblies interchange.

As Al says!
Also, one of my dampers (21) was siezed and the other partially. They can be opened cleaned and re-filled with new oil (from the club) and I recommend this highly.

I ordered two of those kits, if anyone knows where to get the yellow marked items, that would be very helpfull.
