Title: ABC Tricar
Post by: blob on December 16, 2012, 10:29:41 AM
OK not a microcar but it seemed fitting to post it here, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-Mini-Abc-Tricar-3-Wheeler-classic-collecter-/261142040265?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item3ccd474ec9

Really wanted one of these years ago. I found about half those made but no one would sell, despite most not being in use. This included some burk who had turned an ABC into a Ranger Cub. Why not buy the more common Ranger Cub?

Now I am not so bothered and this example has appeared before I believe. The Clubman front does it no favours even if it is a rarer option. Still a bikers device really so there is a market over and above.

Wow That brings back memories! As a boy I would see one regularly driving around Hornchurch. It wasnt until years later that I learned it belonged to our own Maurice Rogers brother. Apparently they handled very well, I guess with all that weight sat squarely between the front wheels the back would just follow no matter what you did with it!

Still a bikers device really.....
Is that still true nowadays?  It's pretty rare to come across a biker these days who didn't get a car license before they got a bike license - most bikers now being 'leisure bikers' rather than poor motorists.  One look at the thousands of pounds needed to insure a bike even TPF&T puts paid to the idea of a bike over 125cc as an economy purchase.

Could be right but my budd Alec 'Spanner' has one and drives it in the winter if he is not in some other trike - enc Berkeley. He is a proper biker despite having a car licence. Perhaps these guys are restricted to the carrot fields of the shires these days. However biker pubs have all but disappeared so something has reduced the biker population.
