We have just been notified of the Warren Classic Concours Car (WaCCCE) event that some of you may wish to attend.

It will be held at the Warren Golf Course in Malden in Essex (near to the cabbage field) on 4 May.

If you would like more information go to www.warrenclassic.co.uk or ring Nick Waller on 0787 5516817

answers on a postcard please  :) obviously i should go and bob as he's next door anyway  ;D

spotted the initials - we have loads of wacce ( whacky ) vehicles between us

just a thought chris , why this one in particular as it is not micro related . during the season i suspect there must at least a dozen or so concours nationwide every sunday are you going to highlight them all ? my two local car clubs have 3 each , each year for the different era's of vehicles .

Chris doesn't say who "we" are? Could mean they contacted Rumcars through the magazine editor.  Maybe they want a broad cross section or classic cars and are encouraging  microcars to participate. I read the link and it all sounds far too serious and posh for Thumper to be getting involved. Interestingly it appears this one is on a Saturday.

A case of cabbages and kings. They might be shiny but Thumper would steal the day as he is more interesting!

I just looked at all the classes in this concourse show, they certainly are trying to attract all the posh stuff, Aston class, Lamborghini class, the list goes on!
After giving it some thought I have entered Thumper just to take the Micky.

No Sans Permis class then?

Dear Bob

The term "We" covers Rumcar (Jean Hammond) and Rumcar News (Chris Thomas), and therefore we felt it was right to share it with you all. They are looking for 100 cars to participate in their little money making enterprise. I think it would be good if all the Essex and North London Microcar owners were to get together and put on a show. As Al says they may well show the rest of the world a clean pair of heels.

They said that if any clubs would like to have a stand of their own that can be arranged (no fee was mentioned) and Rumcar could lend their Rumcar Banner ( 8 feet long and 2 feet high) if wanted.

I think Bob and Co should not be intimidated by the Bentley boys at the golf club.  Malcolm Thomas always manages best in show awards. Why not try for this one before somebody tries for Pebble Beach Concourse event!!!!

No Sans Permis class then?

That could be classed as a contradiction in terms in itself and therefore cancelled out. Take a Type 70 as an AC and watch the fun?

Well thats what I though Chris, I think Richard was wondering if it was just a new event that you personally had heard about. This is good  because it shows that they are aware of how microcars appeal these day. I have filled out the entry form but I dare say when I get a reply there will be some entry fee involved and then I will politely withdraw. Thumper will not be winning anything, it has cracked paintwork and a tear in the seat, he is just my hack.[thats a point, is Thumper a boy or a girl?]  Still as Al said it may create some interest amidst all the tarts handbags!

Actually I thought it was some ordinary bit of junk mail - I see nothing in the invite at all

Dear Bob

If the event is based upon vehicle classes and you are the only vehicle in that class, then logic would make you the class winner.

I say show them what a good microcar looks like.

Wasn't being funny bob , just didn't relate the letter to rum in any way weiner related . Obviously I must be wrong , just assumed someone at warrens had mailshotted all car clubs. If I had a car in thumpers condition and the show was local I might well enter to gauge the public mood

Weiner related? You have lost me now.   I suppose its relatively local 28 miles away to be precise.

Well I received a reply from the organizers of this event and they sounded quite pleased to accept my entry of Thumper.  I'm thinking of turning it into a RUMCARS promotion, maybe setting up a little table with some literature etc if the situation lends its self to it.

Well this event is upon me this Saturday. They have sent fancy passes on ribbons that are worn around ones neck. An impressive list of supercars and classics are pledged to attend but the best part is that all entrants get breakfast on arrival and an all day buffet in the Golf club. So, if Thumper passes its MOT this week and the club actually lets me in it could be an experience. I'm certainly not going to eat for a couple of day before hand! :D

Not like the Golf course at Lyneham, near Shipton under Wychwood then. Who's members glowered at us as we used there practice pitch and putt for Schmitting. Golf is a bit like schmitting I think. Strange coves involved who think they are important and boss people about. Golf, just as good a game tooking dried dog turds with a club up the woods. Try and hit them where they came from, in one, is fun (a Beagle to those in the know), but so is anonymous 8 iron over the car park. You get just as many folk trying to tell you what to do and its free! Anyway, good luck with Essex Golf, it might be the breakthrough the game has been looking for. Though you could annoy them by arriving with a Croquet Mallet.

The original plan was to annoy them by arriving with an Isetta but it appears to have backfired, the plan that is, not the isetta! :D Golf has been really big here for decades with new coarses still springing up at an alarming rate. Afluence brings golf unfortunately. Cant see the facination myself but would still prefer to hit a ball than dog poo, each to his own!

Wirral rhyming slang. I like it.

Golf is way of getting out of shopping, isn't it?

Then again if it had not been for golf I would perhaps have not got into Microcars as my housemaster only had the Isetta I was allowed to work on because he could use it to go to and from and round the golf course with the bags on the back. At the same time there were three invalid trike parked in the area. One belonged to the Maths teachers father, I think. It was known as Pakki's Porsch, a deeply no PC nickname now. The other two were residents of sheltered houses across the road next to a bomb site where the cars were parked. So I might have predated Stuart in going all dew eyed over those but for golf.

This turned out to be a very very good event! Superbly organised and attracted some fabulous cars. Thumper was not the only micro there, a Schmitt put in an appearance along with a very interesting cycle car called a Twombly, its a narrow car with tandem seating dating from 1913. Google it.

The artist seems more famous than the car - but here it is :-

A pleasant looking car. I thought you were going to say Tamplin, a few of those about but this is new to me.

Neither Mike or I had our cameras with us yesterday but the schmitt owner, a guy named Kim took some good shots and will be sending them on the me.

I was fascinated by the friction transmission of this car, the engine had a disc/plate fixed on the end of its crankshaft, at right angles to this disc was a roller which could be moved across the disc to make contact with it at any point from the center[no drive] to the outer edge which would give in effect top gear. So simple!
