Title: A new Cyphus wagon?
Post by: Big Al on May 14, 2013, 09:14:51 AM
When Root has awoken from his slumbers at about 11.00 am - oh the joys of no job - we will be thinking of setting off after his breakfast and my lunch to drop off an engine ordered and then look at a potential purchase of an unregistered two seat three wheeled 50cc puddlejumper missing weather protection young Root has been fancying owning for sometime now. Seems he can get the top from a GRP source at a later date so its worth grabbing the rest of the car if a deal can be made. Buddies have agreed to underwrite the deal, if needs be, as its a bargain, we think. The seller has clearly got bored of it and has a huge estate so possibly does not care about taking a hit on what he paid out for it. We will see.
If we get it, Ian Hellings will be the first to view, as he is over at the moment and is due to be here for Wed and Thurs. I am hoping to get Ian along to a clubnight and perhaps the other night we will have a bit of nosh up somewhere. Should be the last use 56 gets as nigh on out the door but for being paid my share of the Estate. So far the removals cover about 800 sq ft and I expect it to exceed a 1000 sq ft. That is a lot of crap to own.

All done & dusted and now safely in my possession after a whirlwind three days set in motion by the Big One after a chance sighting and pointing out to me  last Saturday  In fact it all happened so fast even the Mafia doesn't know about it yet.   ;)  Big thanks to Alan and David H for smoothing the way, and now the real fun begins.  ;D

And to think it all started with a Peel door handle as well....

Well, it only took five years, but one found me in the end, just when one least expected it. On 14th May 2013 I did the deal for the 1999 Funtech 50 one sees below.  ;D  As Big Al says, I do seem to be making a bit of a habit of these 50cc thingys....  8)

The AC's currently on two wheels Jamie, ask again in a year's time and it might be finished by then.  ;)

Congratulations.

Let us know how you get on with it.   There is a dealer local to us near Long Stratton, Suffolk.

We popped in to see them - very friendly and laid-back.  Know everything about the recent law changes to 16 year old driving.  Secma.

Sorry chaps. Could not resist leading you up the 'Gordon' path - bit like a garden only rows of Micros.

A few bits to get but the basis of a well bought bit of tackle, I think. I have no idea how practical they are but something tells me more than the AC P50, exclusive of shows perhaps. So we now await to see if Root finds this a bit fizzier than his previous foamtastic funmobiles and hits the streets of Witney.

One of the Bond Bug drivers ran one of these for quite some time. He let me have a little go at one of the Bath rallies,  I really liked it, mind you his had the 70cc conversion kit which apparently transforms them and makes them usable. I hope you are going to use it Stuart and not just park it.

As you know very well Rob, I have been driving microcars non stop for decades and that includes Inters ! I drove my first one a lot  but now there worth $161,000 I dare not.  ;D ;D   Still, I get to drive the Isetta most days. What I mean is that if he gets the Funtech  on the road I think he will enjoy it! Some of us need spurring on a little. I notice there is an electric one on ebay right now, I didnt even know they made one.

Yes Harvey had one of, or the first, registered. No one was allowed to touch it without permission. Odd to have to make the statement and more so that he had to enforce it. But I guess the larger mass of MIcronauts are used to fiddling with other peoples cars to see what goes where, why and to see the bodges.

We were given to understand that a 125cc can be created. I suspect that is an engine swap rather than a top end kit. The base engine is an Italjet and I have not bothered looking up if they do a 125cc as it is not my car and nor do I find myself fancying one despite the schmittesque steering. My advice was to get it going before thinking of modification or you do not start from a place of certainty.

They sound useable enough in standard 50cc form, with speeds of 35-40mph being bandied about in some quarters. Some seem to be officially restricted moped-style, and some don't. I don't mind pathetic as long it gets up hills!  This one of mine had only done 347 miles in the first two years of its life & then parked up for twelve years, so the engine can hardly even be ran in yet, let alone worn out.

It's likely to be late August what with one thing and another before we get round to fiddling with it properly & getting it on the road etc. No real urgency on the horizon and no real money at the moment to do so. It'll get done eventuality, same as the "AC". Mind you, if the 40th National Microcar Rally in 2014 really does come back to Burford, then watch me pull out all the stops...  ;)

40th National Rally ought to be in France at a Mill near Limoges.

I'm sure you are right Stuart, it will be fine in 50cc form, the Bug guy uprated his because he wanted to drive it mainly two up as I recall.

...and another one arrives. This time a 2000 Funtech Fun 340 from the very far-flung wilds of East Kent, and the reason why I won't now be able to make this year's Open Day, as it cost me every penny I have to go & get it. I bought it primarily for its roof and other odds and ends, so now they're off & ready to be transplanted onto the 50, I am open to offers on the remaining hulk. It's never been registered, being used mainly in a field. It's been under a tarpaulin for years and so is filthy dirty inside and out and a bit crispy round a few extremities. The engine (Lombardi 338cc, 4-stroke petrol) hasn't been ran in years. Anyone interested, contact me for fuller description.
