Hello all,
I'm assembling the Gyrostarter on an Ydral engine and am not sure how it functions. Do you supply power to the large stud under the starter, then pull the lever above the starter to engage drive to the crank ? Come on Bob, you can answer this one. regards, Nick.

Or maybe pull the lever to disengage the drive, get the starter motor spinning, then release the lever to engage the engine ? Nick.

The car starts with a GYROSTARTER, you pull a lever, it starts a small electric motor spinning that is attached to a flywheel, it sounds like Helicopter starting up. Once the flywheel is up to speed, you throw down the lever, the flywheel engages the crankshaft and (hopefully) the engine cranks and starts.

Oh sorry, I was miles away!
Its been a while since I looked at my one but yes, 6 volts to the terminal, pull the lever upwards [or downwards I think if you are not operating it remotely, as I recall the action is reversed somewhere in the linkage] to set the flywheel spinning, lever released to start engine. Separate ignition switch on the dashboard. Let me know if you have problems.

Hello Bob & Barry,
Thanks for your help & advice. The gyrostarter is now operating fine. I had replaced the toothed centre shaft, but found the rivets I used were slightly too high and fouling, so a bit of flattening the rivet heads with a hammer & punch sorted it. Now with the lever pulled, the electric motor spins freely. I'm delivering it to it's owner Gilles Deloge on tuesday, along with Avolette & Schmitt engines I've overhauled for him. Hopefully he'll now be active with a few of his cars. I want an Inter. regards, Nick.

The gyrostarter is a very compact piece of kit so I can see how anything that shouldn't be there would foul something. Glad you got it sorted, I think you [or rather your customer] was very fortunate to get the part. Joint the queue for people wanting an Inter although you are in a better position than most to find one!
