Hi Jim

Unfortunately I can't find anything that tells you the size, but I did find this chart of spanner jaw sizes very handy when I was doing my car.

Are we going to see it on the road soon?

I just went to check , on the front brake nipple on my G - I'd expected it to be 1/4", but to my surprise, the 1/4" wouldn't go on and the best fit was a 7 mm. (In Malcolm's quoted table, there are no sizes inbetween.)

The nipple is clean, having been covered with a rubber boot, and the 7mm spanner did not seem loose.  I would have expected an imperial size, but I wonder whether the (fairly new) brake cylinder came with a metric fitting?

If I were you, I'd have to hand both a 1/4" and a 7 mm!

Thanks Malcolm and Dave, have now finished restoration and the engine runs sweet problem is even though its got new brake shoes all round new master and Brake cylinder new slave cylinder the brakes are near enough non existent never appreciated this before because its only been in the last few days that I’ve had engine running and been able to drive it the hand brake however has always been great that’s probably what’s been fooling me.
Have been checking those bleed hex sizes today on my car and think I have the answer to my question, Dave Miller is right on the front brake ¼” is to small but a 7mm seams to fit if a little lose, My slave cylinder is one of the re made items supplied from BOC spares and has a bleed nipple hex of 11mm.
Will start work on bleeding the brakes and checking brake adjustments will then post pictures of my car, Oh should have said while driving the car a short distance have noticed the speedo does not work will have to take rear hub off and check that as well.  :)

Hope you get your brake issues sorted soon Jim. My speedo works, but it's about 8-10mph slow according to the satnav.
