Title: Seriously Off Topic!
Post by: marcus on February 12, 2015, 07:37:40 PM
Chuffed.

Leaving for Rye tomorrow, practice, staying overnight then gig in Queen's Head on Sat evening. Depping for Steeleye Span's drummer, who also did 3 albums and singles with Gerry Rafferty, including "Baker Street". The Bassist works with Van Morrison and others. Punching way above my weight, on best behaviour and learning 25 songs!

It's a standard "pub rock" set, but need to really concentrate in that company, will be kn*****d !

But they must all be seventy years old! You will probably be the youngest and sharpest musician there. Worry not!

ps. IF you have worked out how the drum intro goes in Eagles Taking it easy, can you teach our drummer how its done! ;D

I'll have a listen after the gig, right now my brain is bursting trying to remember as much as possible of an unfamiliar set!

Bassist also plays with Paul Brady and US blues singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt. Might not be all that well-known names, but take my word, if you work with them, you have to know your onions!

well I certainly know of Bonnie Raitt - though wouldn't have been able to spell it  ;)

I think she is great. She does a brilliant version of Dylans "Its all over now baby blue"

Drums all loaded into the trusty old Suzuki Wagon, still plenty of room for Guitar Operator, guitar, amps, mics etc. :

Open to all Bob, pretty sure it's free, but if I get a chance this evening or tomorrow morning I'll confirm here.

Dear Marcus

Just searched the internet for reference about your gig and nothing. They are either keeping it very quiet or have I got the wrong Queens Head in Rye?

What is the name of the band?

and what time are you on?

ASTRAL VALENTINE?

Yup, Astral Valentine Band (apparently) and it is a free pub gig from about 9 pm. Plans have been changing almost daily but now seems that it will now be a six piece band. There is another gig late summer which I have been asked to do, but after tonight this might not be the case any more!

Cheers, it went pretty well considering we did not have a practice with the whole band. Quite a crowd turned up and clearly enjoyed it, so job done!
