Title: Bertha, lovely Bertha, sometimes I think your a dream...
Post by: Big Al on April 22, 2015, 03:55:47 PM
Here is film of the Bertha, the Invalid Carriage Register's automated Microcar restoration service for non believers, the able bodied lazy and the shoulder chipped (well it soon will be if you sit around this nasty bit of kit)! As supplied by one Mr Cashmore.

'I say Maud, where did you park the car?'

Bertha, lovely Bertha, you are a lovely machine

Any anyone who works with you will know just what I mean.

Bertha, lovely Bertha, sometimes I thing you're a dream,

When we work out what you have to do,

You can always turn the goods out, always turn the goods out,

We can depend upon you.

Clicking in the day and flashing in the night,

Your computer is shining brightly,

Some people say you've a mind of your own,

And I think that's very likely, likely.

Bertha, lovely Bertha, sometimes I thing you're a dream,

When we work out what you have to do,

You can always turn the goods out, always turn the goods out,

We can depend upon you.

(Sung by Guy Fletcher, as the theme tune to the series "Bertha")

I loved that children's programme. Was similar characters to Postman Pat.

Just watched again and it's quite patriotic and tingling but can't link from my phone  :) it was the one showing her singing outdoor to the troops and then factory film

Ah, I saw one of these machines on a late-night trawl of Youtube, in action gobbling a VW Beetle somewhere in America. Now that they've reached the UK, I'm somewhat wondering when either Midsummer Murders or some cheap horror film is going to use one as the dispatch method for the universally unpopular character who always puts everyone's back's up in the first reel.....

Cheers folks! Stuart: I had exactly the same thoughts! They are currently showing the Avengers (the original UK TV series, not the US Super heroes films/comics!) on True (Freeview 61, weekdays 8 pm). Soon we will see Emma Peel in a KR 201, a few days ago she was tied to the tracks of a miniature railway, with a Wallace and Grommet style fight between Steed and the baddies on the wagons, great stuff.

I used to go our with a fake Emma Peel. I found out her heart was not in the right place.

About the time Emma Peel was driving a Messershmitt, future boss of MI6 Stella Rimmington had just been recruited as a secretary and the increase in her pay allowed her to buy her first new car....a red Heinkel Kabine. True factoid.

Z'iss is vary interesting.

Did she ever work with Edger Briggs, who was, in an alter ego, The Lucky Fella, with Trojan? Come on, keep up Buxton!

I don't think I have ever before seen an 0-10-0 loco, I reckon cornering would not be all that good!

'Big Bertha' , the Lickey banker especialy built for the job ,  stationed at Bromsgrove , was helped out by a fleet of 0-6-0 tanks when she went in for overhaul , sadly replaced by a BR standard class 9f 2-10-0 in the late 1950's . Hence diesel traction turned up and there was little use for assistance .

Ah, as soon as I read "Lickey Bank" I remembered seeing Bertha before, yup: speed/cornering not an issue, just loads of grunt!
