Title: Spare A Copper
Post by: marcus on October 20, 2015, 02:00:13 PM
I saw the tail end of this WW2 George Formby by mistake a few evenings ago, quite an amusing car chase between a police car and Formby in a lovely little car. Atco Trainer? Rytecraft? Worth seeing just for the car.

With no link provided, there is little to share or talk about here. :-\

Er ... you're supposed to read the title, Steve  ;)

When marcus says he saw the end of this "WW2 George Formby", he means the George Formby film (or, for you, "movie") called "Spare a Copper".

[In case it doesn't translate into American, the title is a pun, on the phrase "spare a copper?" used by beggars, asking for some small (copper) coin, but also covering the role George plays, as a copper (as in policeman) who gets into trouble.  Yes, well ... not one of George's best films!]

I guess marcus didn't include a link, because he didn't know one (having just seen the film on the TV).

I don't know what the car is, but you can see a bit of it in a not-very-clear pic on the GeorgeFormby.co.uk website:

Cheers Dave, that's the one! I did find this on Wiki, copied the link but forgot to post it!

I did read the title, caught the pun, and correctly intuited that the link had been inadvertently omitted.
I also looked up George Formby before responding, but still benefitted from the translation explaining that the "George Formby" refers to a film in which he plays a starring role.

Funny that it took 50 views without anyone else daring to point out that the link had been left out.

I guess there is more than a bit of truth to the fabel that tells the story that no one in the Kingdom dared to tell the King that he was wearing no clothes.
Considering this and after watching a few of his short skits, I am more convinced than ever that you Brits are a funny bunch indeed. ;D

George Formby is very well known here. So most would have found it straight away. But there is also this.
