I've just bought myself a new Micro car, taking a quick look through a mound of paperwork I came across what appears to be the original sales receipt. By all appearances it looks as though the car was sold by Harrods Department store.
As a little bit of fun, can anyone guess what Micro cars were sold by Harrods?
I will reveal the new purchase after a few guesses 8)

Sinclair C5?
-
Perhaps even rarer than you think as its rumoured that Harrods only sold one. I wonder why :)
I know a man the definitely knows.
-
Good 'evans! Was it "deer"? And did it ever pass a Humber?
;)
-
Not a product from Bamber Bridge, either.
-
Two stroke or Thumper? ;)
-
Fairthorpe? York Noble? Both those companies had people with good connections.
-
Not a White Fiat Uno, that covered quite a high mileage and belonged to a member of the paparazzi and who was later found shot twice in the head in an extraordinarily impossible, or efficient, suicide that saw the car then catch fire as well. Ooo no!
-
Cant stand the tension , was it Rytecraft ?
-
Two stroke or Thumper? ;)
well played! :-X
-
Ah ! Nice to know I havent lost it
-
Is it nearly appealing car? ;D Didn't Thumper have a dear bambino friend? Did Emma have anything to do with it?
-
Can't believe nobody has got it yet, not even close 8)

Well, I think at least three of us know, we are just letting the game run its course for those that do not, Blimey there is some pretty big hints. though.
-
Cursor?
-
Sinclair C5 ?
-
LOL, Al is correct there are some pretty Big hints in earlier posts.
It's not a Cursor or a C5 8).
However it was an 80's produced Micro car.

Hi Scott I nearly hope I am wrong with BAMBY ? it would spoil the fun but appropriate answer from a Scottish car bam ;D
-
If Grace Brothers had sold a car, which would it have been?
-
Mrs Slocombe's Pussy? !
-
Is Emma close?
-
I'm not sure Rob what did Emma guess?
-
Evans or Peel ?
-
Ah yes, sorry I forgot about that.
This is an interesting one isn't it 8)
-
Didn't Alan have one of his Bambys shown in Harrods ?
-
In the 1980s Harrods used to sell Volkswagen Beetle Children's Cars.
I seem to recall they were powered by a 250cc Briggs and Stratten internal combustion engine and whilst weren't street legal probably can be considered as a micro-car.

So, what is your new purchase?
-
If he bought it from Essex, he is still guessing, possibly.......
-
was Harrods known for --- ''If its not in the store we'll get it for you ?''
-
That was Al's motto when he was dealing in wheelin.
-
Hmm, that is not what I remember. Harrods is about over the top service and making the client feel special. AUA was about first finding me, and then convincing me you really wanted to buy something. Learned the Grumpy Motor Sales technique from several successful folk, who refused to waste time. Funny, one of them moved on to teach people to drive.... Not sure how that worked! Mum had a friend who worked at Liberty's. She was a great desk driver in dealing with the public. Its a gift, or skill, no doubt.

Still waiting to learn the answer to this thread's first question!

Perhaps in retrospect you can now see that the technique only added an additional layer of effort to an already overly difficult overseas transaction with a micro newbie.
With all your travelling about, I chalked it up to your being more flighty than grumpy back then. ::)

I undoubtedly lost trade. But was it a price worth paying in not having to deal with endless tyre kickers. I used to get people turning up, without an appointment, expecting to look at the cars while they were driving the wife around the area. They had no intention of buying anything. They were looking for a free museum. All things from that, through spies, to people using me to value their cars. If I had serviced all enquiries I would never have got out to get the stock I needed to create the interest generated and on which I partially lived. Remember I was doing courier work at the same time so each appointment to view was a potential delivery job turned down. I made a commitment to wait an hour after the agreed time, then I got about my business again.
You would be amazed how many people would drift up 4 hours late and be most surprised to be told I was in Coventry on a job. That is not a great way to start a negotiation, and few of those types ended up with a car. Again it showed their level of real interest.
My heart would sink if they bought the wife/girl friend. Most of them did not buy. Either it was banned as the partner did not like the car, or the bribe to get the car in a holiday, fridge or what ever made the deal to expensive. Buyers were 95% male. That said half the lasses that bought were brilliant fun. So there are good 'uns out there. Just not enough to go round.
Its the Bamby Marcus, to put you out of your misery.
