Post by: golo2 on April 25, 2016, 06:26:06 PM
After wasting ages trawling the web with no success  I hope someone here has the answers!
Rates of tax from 1957 to 1964 including quarterly
Also wording on tax disc
Think it's.  Line 1. Reg no.
Line 2     Tricycle
Line 3.    make. ( Isetta. or Messerschmitt)
Line 4    in box        cap or hp.  300cc or 200cc.     Then the amount?????????
Found cars and bikes but three wheelers eluding me.
Thank you in advance
Ian from Abingdon

According to the log book record of my Isetta, 6 months tax was £2, 4s from 1961-63. No further tax record after that.

It was £5 a year for qualifiying three-wheelers from 1st January 1953 until 17th April 1961, when it was raised to £6. Unfortunately I haven't found a source for quarterly rates yet.

Ah okay, I thought that was for 6 months. Mea culpa. It seems in real terms tricycle tax has come down in price over the years.

Ok golo i have several logbooks all for tricycles ( never known as three wheelers on logbooks or tax discs)
The rates changed and therefore the logbooks are amended but these are facts
Gordon tricycle 1955 £5 annual £1/7/6 quarterly
Ditto another but logbook amended by 1963 to £6 or£2/4/0
Bond 1956 £6 or £2/4/0
Bond 1959 £8 or £2//19/0
Bond 1963 £10 or £3/6/5

Many other details left out ordifferent depending on who wrote them so that would mean the tax discs would differ depending on the clerk at the desk . The only important details were make, reg , and duty I think ring me if you like 0151-632-4239

2. Registered  4th July 1960   -  Annual £12.10.0d.Quarterly £3.8.9d then altered to £15.0.0d. and £5.10.0d and a second time to £17.10.0d and £6.8.Od. with no indication of dates.  I hope this may be of some help.   Jean

They are just designated as Isettas In both cases the class is Private and they lived in the West Country best part of their lives. Number of wheels not designated I am afraid, sorry if I have caused confusion! Jean

Started out as wanting to make a disc for two of my cars 1957 Schmitt and 1959 Isetta
Then when information not easily found became even more of a reason  to find out. May end up as a minor article in Isetta mag if editor has space to fill!! Too much time on my hands

Re' is that a thank you'
Yes ( more detailed  one in a previous post)
Regarding accuracy I think it would take a person much braver than me to risk a posting or an article that might not be perfection personified.
