Title: Unknown microcar
Post by: rayburrow on January 25, 2018, 09:17:39 PM
I'm a member of the Southampton Heritage group on Facebook, and we're trying to identify a three wheeler in an old photograph, standing alongside a mk1 Reliant Regal.  The picture dates from the early fifties, and the car in question has a 1952 registration KCR556.  I'll try to describe it.
Imagine an Isetta with a non opening front, two suicide side doors with quarterlights, two Isetta style headlamps above the two front wheel arches which contain what are almost certainly Ford Popular wheels. The roof is canvas.  The rear of the car is a bit like a Messerschmitt, but longer and deeper, and there is a luggage rack on it.  There's no clue as to the rear wheel layout, whether single or two side by side.  On the front of the car, there is a shallow bonnet, rounded and hinged at the bottom, with a 5 horizontal bar grill, through which you can see some sort of mechanism.  There is no front bumper.  By virtue of the front Ford wheels, my guess is that the whole front axle assembly from a Popular has been used, perhaps even the engine as well.  The car doesn't look home made.
I expect you're as baffled as I am!  Help!!

Seems like you've seen it.
Can you post a pic so we can be on equal footing?

Not computer savvy I'm afraid.  The picture is on the Facebook page I mentioned: I don't know how to copy or send it direct.  Perhaps I could take a photo of the picture and email it to this forum?  Any suggestions, as long as they don't involve quantum physics, would be welcome!

Dear Ray

Thank you for posting this question. Having looked at the image it is not a car I have ever seen before, and looks too good to be home built.

Let us hope one of our clan can throw some light on this interesting car.

Thanks so much for sorting out that photograph, Chris.  You've obviously seen all the postings regarding this car, so I await with bated breath, for the answer!!!
