Hungarian a Balato or Aqua Regia. Without looking at Julian Nowill's great book I am not sure.

Rusty, The little red bug, is it a commercial tug that used to be used at airports and railway stations? I like it. Rob.  ;D

Reaching for my copy of the Standard Catalog of American Cars ( ;D), I can say that the red thing from Rusty is a 1946-48 Motorette, built in Buffalo, New York, with just over 4,000 made. The thing in the carpark is a 1947 Delcar delivery van, from Troy, New York.

Jim, a few wild guesses for your thing; Auto Cub? Brogan? 1948 Scootmobile? Why do I also keep thinking of Libelle.....

About Jims picture. I am not saying that Jim is tight fisted but would he be offering the prize if we stood a hope in hell of getting it. My guess is that its a one off, home build. What company in there right mind would produce such a thing.

The vehicle in the background has to be a clue, doesn't it Stuart?

I'm still working on the Meccano Special a few posts down.  Definitely
a home-build and I think the owner did some awesome proving run in
it.  I've seen it referred to recently but it's slipped my mind.  Call it a
function of my age.

I was in Court (as a witness, he added hastily!) today and the defence barrister
asked if I remembered the defendant - from three years ago.  Three years ago?
I couldn't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning!

GOT IT!  It's a Moonbeam - or should I say THE Moonbeam, built by an enthusiastic
gent with the unlikely name of Jory Squibb.  It's based on a Honda Elite scooter
and gives 85mpg round town or 105mpg if you don't bury the loud pedal too deep
in the Axminster.

Before you all bow down in amazement at my knowledge of microcars, I'll let you into
the secret - I Googled the caption of the photo and there it was, in all its' home-built
glory.  Have a look on Google, there's a very impressive web site devoted to the car.

Oh no, my offer stands. I will also tell you it is NOT an American built vehicle!

My guess is that its a one off, home build.

and you would be incorrect.  well maybe.  However it is possible that it might be a one-off that the company built but was never able to sell.
I have an ad sheet with technical specs for this vehicle.
It had a name and a marketing plan!
It was offered as a single seater or two seater.  I don't know if anyone ever took them up on their offer though.

To Whitney44:  Try e-mailing John Gunnell, the editor at  gunnellj@athenet.net ,  or look on US Ebay.  He quite ofter puts many of his catalogues on.  This edition has an addendum by Perry Zavitz of over 100 pages called Alternative Cars 46 - 75, full of US weird and micros, together with pics and specs when available.  Good luck!!!

Well the mystery micro thread has really taken off! I wonder if we have upset Tony though. We have proberbly pre- emptied his Mystery car slot for Rumcar news for the next five years!   Love the Volugrafo but how can a car as clean as that get such muddy tyres?

Stuart, i never said i don't know the volugrafo. This car is mentioned in different german microcarbooks. ;D

Dear Friends

IS IT ME!

There are now 9 Mystery cars on this thread and I have become totally lost as to which vehicle is being talked about or identified. In one or two instances I have worked it out, but the rest is just a mystery to me.

Howabout having a new section called Mystery Cars, or starting a new thread for each vehicle, or simply refering to them by number.

Please help me before my brain explodes.

Chris Thomas

then this thread is still doing its job!
Some people have to solve the Mystery of what the car is and even after that answer is posted, others will have to solve the Mystery of which car was identified!

either way, everyone gets to play.

unless you don't like Mysteries.....

What did Ferdi say?Luvvly Jubbly? Do they have Only fools and horses in Germany?  Chris does have a point, this thread is a bit jumbled now, not a bad idea to number them in future.

Anyone interested in the Standard Catolog of American Cars 1946 - 1975, make sure it's the latest edition, called "revised 4 th edition."  I am not sure if the previous editions had this interesting and benificial addendum or not. I don't have a previous edition copy to check.
