But if it has a current V5c, there should be no problem. Unless none of the other numbers (chassis, engine etc) match and the computer is picking up on that. There's proveable history on this car going back to at least 1976 which I know of, plus it was formerly owned by none other than Tony Marshall  :o  from 1976 to 1986ish, so there should be more than enough for the DVLA to accept.......

I emailed this guy and told him to get in touch with Jean, but I have a sneeky suspicion he's trying to sell the numbers.

Just realised what could be his problem. HA HA HA. The V5C may have the Note: Non-Transferable Registration Mark.
This is put on by DVLA when the number is reunited with the car, say after the old log book is missing or the car wasn't on the DVLA computer before 1982? and a new Certificate is issued. There is no way to get it taken off the document without evidence from way back in the cars history.
The owner says DVLA stopped him taxing it. How come it is on DVLAs web site as being taxed until October 2008?

I spoke with the guy and he assures me that the number is already transferable but DVLA are threatening to take it away because of some suspicion about the chassis plate. Its a new one on me!

This bloke has been trying to sell it for yonks. He is a well known nasty number plate dealer, this is why he will have bought it originally.
treat anything to do with him with extreme caution.

He is solely after the plate.and is not a nice man to deal with either.

Hi

At least the price of the car might come down if ther is no value attatched to the plate.
