Evidence please. Perhaps a link?

All I heard was that the production of new twostrokes was being fazed out.

They've been going on about this for years. As far as I understand the case, it is only the powering of NEW-BUILT VEHICLES (such as cars, mopeds & tractors) by a two stroke engines which is being outlawed.  Two stroke engines will still be allowed to be made for things such as stationary engines, lawn mowers & chainsaws etc etc, but no VEHICLE built after whatever the date may be will be allowed to have a two stroke engine.

Same situation in Germany too. They don't ban vintage two stroke cars of the roads, but there are no newly built cars with two stroke engines allowed or to be built in the future.
Happy new year to all of you.
Take care

2 or 3 years ago I heard that new super efficient / clean designs of 2 stroke were going to be "the engine of the future", but I guess that has all gone up in smoke!

Piaggio make a direct injection 2 stroke engine for some of their scooters.  Because no fuel passes through the crank case, it doesn't burn the lubricating oil, so there is no smoke.  There's a fair chance that they will continue to be able to make that engine.  They probably won't ban 2 stroke as a technology but will enforce emissions standards on all vehicle that mean conventional 2 strokes can't be made to pass the test.
