Hi mates,
as to the peel engines. The correct numbers are 80316....., or 80416...
For the british market the Zweirad Union delivered about 120 engines, witch were signed with a "4" on the 6th rank. For example 803164788.
The 4 was never used for products within Germany. It seems it was a special code for Peel engineering.
Of course u could use different engines, but some bits needs to be changed.
Right mates, keep the Peels running!!!

Interesting..  Can you confirm the EXACT model of Hummel moped the Peel 4.2PS engine was fitted to.

It seems the Peel engine had a simple points/coil set up. Later engines (as per the Ebay motor) have a magneto so I assume from a later machine.

Most people believe 200 engines were supplied. 150 in the cars and 50 for spares. The reason why the P50 was stopped (Peel had firm orders) was due to litigation from unhappy owners due to these fools not adding the correct mix of two stroke oil.  Mr Gelling remembers the cranks failing as well.  Perhaps because the cars overloaded the minute power unit? Poor German engineering is extremely rare. It was thus uneconomical for Peel to continue.  Mr Cannel obviously changed his mind to use the balance of the engines at the works. The Trident was not meant to have used the 49cc engine. I believe the Tina engine was supposed to be used but there were supply issues.

The engine in my P50 is only 2 digits from my Trident. Although they were built 18 - 24 months apart. This proves there was a pile of engines which were plucked fom a stack in no order.    It is alleged that Peel numbered the cars from a box of 'pre stamped' chassis numbers. Something I also dispute. Evidence does not support this.  But we'll never really know the truth..

Hi,
the mopeds where the engines was used on, are called Victoria, Dkw Hummel.
You should buy an DKW manual. This offers all engine typs, carburators and how to strip down an engine.
Probabely you can find this item on ebay easy.
