Maybe there is a poll thing there as we recall Beaulieus passed

Maybe we should have a poll of the worst white elephants ever purchased! This usually occurs during a down pour when I've taken refuge at a stall selling stuff with little relevance to what I'm seeking.  :-X

Err sorry?  the fact is you fuel your car, get stuck in traffic, pay a sizeable entrance fee and trawl the jumble.  But there's nothing but piles of old crap.

FRIDAY IS TRADERS DAY.   So by the time joe public punter arrives on Sat all the items of interest have had ownership transfer. That's tantamount to inside trading which is banned in the financial markets!

[/quote]

I would tend to the above critique save that all Autojumbles offer old crap. That is the point. However the cost of attending it should be in proportion to the ratio of interesting stuff to old crap. I think the above needs qualifying, perhaps, to suggest the ratio is at a point where it is fiscally not worth attending. Now if you intend buying the parts from the specialists or you are a more car boot type who has the patience to sift the crap finely then it probably represents a great weekend or day out. However Beaulieu now provides high density crap on a level that it is impossible to actually sift the lot. The Spring one is feasible but suffers a worse crap ratio than the autumn one I fear. Strangely though Mannheim is bigger it is still possible to check the whole site out as the crap is less and the layout better.

Getting in on Friday is a must. This was why we had shared stands. This became more and more difficult and expensive. So the traders left. It is a catch 22. You either allow the trade to trade or you send them elsewhere by preventing free trade and end up with your field of crap. Mannheim accepts this and sells a weekend ticket at a very reasonable price. The only issue to jumbling on Friday is that a good proportion of stall holders will not be on their stands as they are out trading. Err, that's what jumblers do. (The city is hardly in a position to throw mud here and if you do shares by reading the latest tips your already to late. That is why I leave it alone.)  Friday is their day and the best day for business so you need to have a good memory of where stuff is so you can go back at agreed times. They tend to have spares demands greater than the average customer as these are the really enthusiastic eccentric types that live the petrol head lifestyle. Beaulieu has lost a good proportion of these guys and suffers badly as they had the interesting stuff and the banter to go with it. As a comparison Newark has got interesting stuff, is active on Saturday and several times all the public has done is served to get in the way of business as very often the trade is your best customer! I have seen people do a Friday stand, sell it Sat morning and go home avoiding the public bit entirely at both events. I am not so sure this is not a wise move.

suggest you get a new hobby - pursuit of a pastime for pleasure . if its not a pleasure for you just give it a rest cos your spoiling our pleasure . oh by the way what on earth do you think the dealers do with stock they buy ? durr ! THEY SELL IT  ;D

Sorry who's our?  Who exactly are you representing?  I welcome your explanation as to how I'm personally reducing the pleasure of an enthusiast because I don't go to a autojumble or Al doesn't attend the National?   Are you some kind of supreme micro related spokesman for people (who?) who enjoy sifting through junk?

I derive much pleasure from owning, driving an maintaining my Micros.  If I reach a point when they don't then that will be the day when I consider selling.

I can't afford a TG.  I'll blame it on you shall I?

As for your comments about dealers selling stock, again you display your lack of intelligence.  Al states that Friday is where the action is.   I don't know if you've noticed but when department stores have their yearly sales like Harrods punters clamour to get in at 9am.  At least you have a fighting chance.  I assume you would turn up a couple of days later?

So basically any negative posting is banned as you might get a little upset?

Get a life.

I say, steady on.

On a brighter side. The reason that folk like going to David Hambledon's Spring Beaulieu Trojan Trust stand is he is, as you can see, a flash git, a bright spark and a bit of a sucker all rolled into one. If I had not principles I would join him and his merry band of loonies and enjoy the weekend as they are darned good company. Blimey who should be next door but Lightweight Dickie who adds dry wit to the proceedings as well as a perceptive eye. He needs it to get the best bits before Mike with whom he shares stand space. It is a pity that the Trojan Trust cannot do a stand in the autumn as it would make for a light hearted corner of the field and a centre for enthusiastic eccentrics as well as a lot of knowledge for those of less experience.

Back to legal letters, I need these breaks or my brain would explode.

Steady on indeed.

Talking of Trojans I think it's time my Trobike was started up..

I have not got a Trobike so I will have to go and play with my self-ishness. Does a Larmar count?

Can't beat a Trobike!

I have a pal with four.  Or should I say 2 3/4 worth of parts and frames etc.

Another doomed conveyance.  Good wheels/tyres/brakes. Engine?  not really any good in its application as a moped engine.  The Cinton might chug happily powering a lathe or lawnmower but revving hard in a bike destroys the appalling big end in minutes.  Oops.  Mind you they were 25 quid.  A Honda Monkey CZ100 was 70. I suppose that was like £2500 compared to £7000.

The CZ is a masterpiece and a revered jewel.  The Tro is British at its best...

Ah the dreaded Clinton. Bought in bulk by Peter Agg at a ridiculously low price to kill off Villiers, which it did. Fitted to anything that looked like it should have an engine but not likely to get much use. Why? Because the plated barrel had a short and finite life before wearing out! Not British technology though, a product of the US of A. Strangely the same thing is happening to Monkey Bikes, generators etc with Chinese versions of Japanese units that expire after a lifetime of use, a short one! I think my mates Monkey bike managed 375 miles before being beyond economic repair.

it was trobikes that led me down the road to ruin ! my dad had one in the mid sixties , whilst also restoring a beautiful BRG Lagonda . it went well , we as kids could always get it going by ourselves ( which funny enough i cant do now  ;D ) in my 30's i got in touch with the Heinkel Trojan  OEC and i got interested in Trojan bubbles etc.etc............
I did take the Trobike to my first HTOEC AGM at Crick was it ? northampton and there met g-o-g-g-o , big al etc for the first time 1986 I think .

i still have the original Trobike and paperwork  . I think our American cousins may have better recollections re Clinton engines . i also have that brand new ex Beaulieu engine to try out .

see the picture of our riding in the garden with dad and me with two of my three brothers , junior would have been a toddler. I am sitting in front of dad. we had probably been to our annual visit to the Wallasey Tattoo and seen the White Helmets motorcycle display team

Can the Clinton barrel not be bored and sleeved?
