Cyclecar photos and email address sought
« on: July 10, 2011, 12:05:40 PM »
I've been asked if I can lay my hands on any photographs of pre-1940s three-wheeled cyclecars on behalf of a friend for yet another forthcoming book.  :)  Anyone got anything?

Also, on a totally unrelated subject, does anyone have an email contact for Tony Etheridge the tyre guru....

Thats interesting Stuart, I find prewar cycles cars fascinating. Cant offer you any photos unfortunatley. I dont think Tony Etheridge does emails. You have to leave a message on his answerphone. By the way, do you want a couple of 520x10 tyres for invacars? I could bring them to Jeans place if you want them.   Bob

hi stuart cant help you either . agreed on tony etheridge - ansaphone , he will get straight back to you. different subject but on invalid carriages, i was in a local history book 1887 . a business selling and repairing perambulators and invalides carriages , with the S. surely this is more correct being the carriage of an invalid . the use of invalid carriage infers that it is the carriage that is the invalid ( but then again .......... :D )

thats all from pedants corner

Stuart I can only re comend books like Mike Worthington Williams'  "Cyclecar to Microcar" and two others I acquired for Norbert Mylius last year namely "Cyclecars- An Annotated Index" by Stephen Kay (ISBN9780956316004) and "How to build a Cyclecar" by The Antar Press (www.antar.cc)  I don't know if this is of any help, it might just give you (or your friend) a starting point, Jean

Not sure if this is the right sort of thing.

I have two books
The Girls Own Annual 1903 - October 1903 to September 1904 collection of the Girls Own Paper (weekly).
The Boys Own Annual 1880 - its in pretty poor shape and hard to scan.

Attached a couple of pictures of three wheelers from 1903.  I have scaned the full three page article if you are interested?

The Boys Own Annual doesn't mention any cars from cover to cover!  more interested in naval expeditions etc.
It does have some great articles on the development of the Penny Farthing and some three wheel derivatives.

Both very thick Annuals are a facinating read.

Hey Disco Stu (simpsons),

I guess there is a forum on the net specialising in those vehicles, maybe google?

We dont have any pics of that sort of thing, but you probably have a load of car/bike mags, that may have an article about them, with original ads and old photos?

I doubt it, but if I see anything at home, I will send you pics straight away!

Will I see your toilet blue car at the NMCR?

Quick Stuart or this one will be snapped up.  A lick of paint and you could have it ready for the Rumcars meeting.

Stuart, I have an excellent book published by the Science Museum in 1970: "The Light Car, a technical history" by C. F. Caunter, SBN 11 290003 8.
Photos, drawings and lots of text all about light cars, cycle cars, bubble cars, micro cars, minis, 2CVs, Renault 4s etc. It might be possible to find a copy on eBay or check with the Science Museum archive.

Also there is the Shire book "Three Wheelers" by Ken Hill, nice little book.
