Collecting Microcars
« on: November 24, 2011, 07:44:02 PM »
It's 1976 zooming down the road in a Ford Transit van to collect a Goggomobile the van starts to rattle and roll. Pulls up out side a garage to find one of the front N/S tyre has a big bulge. No jack so borrow one from garage, change wheel ,off we go. Pick up Goggo from it's airline pilot owner then flog a few months later at a loss. Oh, happy days.
Seen a picture of one of our forum friends standing with it in a garage somewhere.

Dammit, you beat me to it! I have driven most years and models of Transit, but never on with 4 front wheels on the same axle, and no bodywork hiding the chassis!
That number looks familiar to me too.

It is NOT a rear. If you look closely at the picture you will see that the wheel is resting against the back wheel for it's photo- shoot. There aren't any nuts holding it onto the other wheel. Look really close and you can see three tyres, two under the body and bobbly having a rest!
Left click the picture it come up bigger.

PO is familiar, you sit on it most days.  ;D

Same here, we picked loads up in the past, but havent sold many! Well, my dad did have 17 schmitts at one point, and had to sell some to build a new house. He sold 3 TG's, and it payed for a house!

Ah, so let me check I have it right: you have THREE wheels on each side of your Transit's front axle, one got a hernia, lost its nuts and ran away for a photo shoot. Yup that sounds about right!

That really is a fine bulge on that tyre!

It is the rear wheel arch with two wheels under and bobbly, the front wheel having a rest against her old rear mates.

I always wondered where small tyres came from. So Tyres breed a bit like yeast? Give them enough tarmac and air and he presto.

Nice to so old Rommel, a car I should not have sold. It lives in Lincolnshire with a Trojan. .
