could the moped on the left be a Phillips p45 ? or possibly a Raleigh moped launched 1958 ? cant make out the makers name on the moped on the right, it appears to be a Sachs engined Lledo model but by whom ? by the way in the list of franchises is RAP what were they ?

One on the left is an NSU Snelly and the one on the right a Norman Lido.

My thoughts: The advertisement for the sliding window Isetta dates the picture 1958 - 1964 (unless this was an old advert at the time). The bikes or cars listed in the window are Mobylette, (illegible), NSU, Paloma, (illegible), Heinkel, Bond, ISO, Velocette, Binetta, Excelsior, Frisky, Panther. I assume the bikes on display are new as there aren't many plates visible, but timing would be more difficult if the bikes were second hand. I note the comments regarding the bikes as many of you know more about these than I do. I can't see a badge on the Heinkel / Trojan.

The posting on the right for the Sunday Dispatch shows Robert Boothby, Baron Boothby, a shady character who was educated at Eton and Magdalen College, Oxford. He married twice and was said to have fathered at least three children by the wives of two other men. One of these wives was Dorothy Macmillan whose husband Harold Macmillan later became prime minister. Boothby also befriended the Kray twins. In spite of his chequered history Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother described him 'a bounder but not a cad'. Boothby's underworld connections were well known to many journalists, but in those days they kept quiet. Eventually in 1964 the story couldn't be contained any longer. Hence my thoughts about the date of the photograph. But apparently Boothby was a commentator on public affairs for many years prior to the scandal so if 20thcenturyimages date this photograph as 1960, I think we can agree on that.

The picture probably predates the Peels.

we are a bright lot between us aren't we  ..... but individually ?  ;)

one other clue - pudding basin helmets no longer the fashion late '61 onwards it was then " jet style" helmets . of course he may have been a bit behind the times in Liverpool ? or trying to shift older stocks by still placing corkers in the window

Davida still make the Classic pudding basin helmet but it doesn't conform to any current helmet safety standards. But saying that I bought one 4 years ago and used it with various bikes I had at the time. May get another one when I've got my new toy back on the road.

Ain't got nuffink now except memories.
