Ho Ho!!  Just got a reply from Mike Hele of the Bond club parts scheme and in true BOC style in the nicest possible way got told to bog off!! Apparently shelling out money to join a previous scheme that went to the wall counted for nothing. ???  Still I think I have found a solution in the form of a Greeves Roadster down pipe.

EDIT: My dad was kicked out of the Bond club (by someone else) because he "exported" both of his bonds when we moved to France!

I think Jonathan worded it a bit wrong. When we moved to France eleven years ago, I contacted Stan Cornock and told him my Bonds ( a B and a D ) will be coming with me and here's my new address for his records. He said I can't export the cars and I should sell them to someone in the UK. I refused, saying they're my cars and I wan't to keep them. He then ended my club membership. I wrote a letter to other Bond Club members stating what he had done and my membership was renewed. I've since let it lapse, as I don't like Stan's attitude.  I love my Bond D two  seater and will never part with it. I sold the B some years ago, as it's not as usable as the D and I don't believe in having any cars that I don't like driving.       Nick.

stans attitude stinks and i have told him nearly as much . never met a more bigotted ,racist awkward sod in my life . sure he has not served the club well at all over the years - but thats only my opinion  ;) after saying that mike didnt supply you with parts bob as you are not a member of the spares scheme ! fair enough . the old schemes were complicated and hard to understand ,with different interests old/new etc. there was a period of time when members of the old were free to the new scheme but after years of lapse you would expect to rejoin . you were always on a loser bob - you would be in most clubs

Don't be so negative Bob. You have done and I'm sure you are doing a great job in the micro world. It's amazing how many people you can say "up your pipe" to.  "They don't help you, you don't help them"  That's my motto.  ;D (I wondered why I haven't got many friends!)  :'(

I dont belong to any car clubs at all now, only the moped club.

That is the nub of it. The idea of a club is to pool help and get things done together to save money. Folk devote time and money for free. So new clubs form quite often on pretty socialist/co operative grounds. Over the clubs earlier lifetime that seems to slowly get forgotten as other people join and the drift to a more capitalist approach comes in. The turning point is normally when one of the willing originators makes a normal simple request to do something and the answer is 'Yes, we will agree but what is in it for us'. Exit the benevolent and goodbye fun club to be replaced by some sort of secret society or quasi small business. It seems to be a natural progression and I think I know more microcar people who are not in clubs than are now.  I am now only in one club myself. The reason, those I know mainly do not need the clubs. However the clubs mainly need those people who left. But what is in it for them if you do not need the club? Goodness me its your question back again after a few years running the club! You tend to only plop on people only once.

I was no great Bond owner but I paid into the spares scheme as it was a good idea. I attempted to save cars I found. What happened to that money and the margin it generated. I think it resides in private accounts now. Mike Hele rather picked up the pieces. As for the cars rescued from scrap, some with numbers, many have never been seen again and not much information come forth on where they are when the question was asked. I get the blame for exporting every Bond I ever owned by half the Bond owners around. A great incentive for me to help Bonds now as my experience with the owners is mainly a bad one. However while I might now choose not to help the club I would still rescue a car. From that perspective then the best thing for the car is someone who will restore it. The Bond system here is hostile thus I am left with the rest of the world to place the car. That might mean export to someone who will restore rather than to some place up north for peanuts where it will be used as a spares resource and turned into a trailer with the number sold off or something. These people are arguing against themselves, are they not? Banning things or people means you loose any control or record of what they are doing. It is silly.

Dare I say many of those non members with cars are the real minimalists who's interest has, in fact, been highjacked?

Before this spirals out of control I just want to make clear that I dont really have a serious beef with the BOC, I'm sure they serve there members well, they certainly put on enjoyable events, some friends have just returned from the Isle of Wight jaunt. I was only peeved that my parts scheme money had been taken and I got nothing in return, so what if the parts manager changed a few times and I had not bought any parts for a few years. Also to be clear, Mike Hele is a good chum and a real enthusiast who I'm sure would have helped me if he was in a position to. I'm still not going to join the club though just to buy an exhaust pipe! One of the things I like about Isetta ownership, plenty of spares sources outside of any club membership!

it wasn't me bob ! it was rob  :)

the isetta spares thing is surely quite different i suspect , i may be wrong , that most spares are newly remanufactured - aren't they ? the bond pipe you were after would be an original and in very short supply . if they made a batch of new ones they might have been overjoyed to sell some ex-club .

I dont think so Dickie. I remember a few years ago when Mike first took on the spares  he took a stand at one of the rallies and on the stand was a row of newly made down pipes at £45 each as I recall.
