I was down on the south coast before Christmas delivering a barometer I had re tubed and gave the customer my email , the one that starts with Gyrostarter, the customer inquired as to what that meant which lead to the coming out that I was a microcar fan, the guy said "Well I never, so am I, I have an Isetta which is currently being converted to sequential gear change"  Sequential gear change I replied? that's impossible on an Isetta, to which he repied "Not if you are having a Kawasaki 750 engine put in!" I tried to explain that this would make the car undrivable, uninsurable, more or less worthless and is destroying a vintage vehicle. It just wont be an Isetta anymore! Why cant people just leave microcars alone! >:(

No no no! Silly boy! :D  I'm just making something out of spare parts, thats not the same as destroying an existing microcar.

Yea gods. A Hoffman Autokabin! Well as near as your going to get.

It is all the rage to re engine or tune up microcars to go faster, see the American productions. Trouble starts when a conversion has been done very well and then convergent thinking has someone else try the same thing. Has to be as good or better or its all really rather boring to all but the guy doing it if it is not. It is an odd thing to do as well, as you could buy a bigger/better car designed to do the speed you want. So I guess it is more about being the centre of attention for many, though some will point to the challenge. John Bannell springs to mind. An engineer needing to exercise his considerable skills.

As for the picture. Is that the end of the old caption competition.

'Where is that pretty young lady now I have used the ladder, can opener and Motorcycle to get her blown up Isetta going again?'

Could it be? No, it can't be! Bloke looks familiar.

Back in 1976 when I sold off my collection, two guys from the London area came and bought my old seized up Isetta for £10 and towed it back home. They were dressed like the bloke in the photo, about the same age too. Think they were going to make a "hot-rod"?
Ain't got nuffink now except memories.
