Amazing!

Mind you my old VWTansporter van (square bumper type) probably did around 1 m before its fatal fuel fire in the middle of a busy junction in Kennington!

That works out at approx 174 miles every single day

Are American miles shorter than ours?

Nearly 240 miles a day since he passed 2,000,000 in March 2002! Haven't they still got a 55mph speed limit?

I believe the 55 mph speed limit has stopped in most or all States, and the speed limit now varies according to where you are. I think some stretches of road allow 80 or 90 mph.

The mandatory 55 mph limit imposed by the federal government of the US ended in late 1995.
While some stretches of road, especially in the western plains, will allow for speeds in excess of 90 mph, you won't find many State Highway Patrol officers that will allow you to travel appreciably above the highest posted rate of 75 m.p.h.
The most typical highway posted rate has been 65m.p.h. since the 55 m.p.h rate mandation was repealed.

I have driven betwee Dallas and San Antonio a few times and I think there were some stretches of 80 or 90 there. My business partner, used to driving big Boeings regarded the "Limit" as being the SLOWEST speed he should go!
