Trouble with being secret is, well its secret. The scandal was the way he was treated thereafter as he happened to have homosexual tendencies. Besides our country has never been very good at rewarding brains over family connections. You are always treated as some sort of weirdo if your clever or good at something. No gong for Barnes Wallace either. The pratts that messed up his inventions mostly got one! No idea why ignorance is so applauded, but the media love it.
