Moped run, with a Nobel !
« on: June 23, 2014, 10:12:46 AM »
Hello all,
Yesterday the local French moped group organised a run. Jonathan went on his homemade bitza, while Daniel & I took the Nobel. I know it's not a moped, but we were allowed to use it. It was a great day and the car was admired and caused a lot of interest. It didn't miss a beat all day. In the photo of the people by the Nobel, you can see my son Daniel standing behind with a black  Messerschmitt T shirt and Jonathan on the right with the black Nirvana T shirt. The girls sitting in front just prove that a Nobel is a babe magnet.  Nick.

Sounds like the French moped crew are as laid back as the British ones about welcoming anything interesting on their runs. One of the things I like about the scene.
Thanks for the pictures Nick.

The British Two Stroke Club were likewise very welcoming. Lost touch with that outfit.

Here's a short video, taken from inside the Nobel. You can see us overtaking an English couple on their Honda Melody's and then Jonathan on his Bitza.

I bet those Frenchies were saying "Just look at those speed crazed Roastbeefs!" ;D

Is that a Bianchi tank I see on the bitsa?

Or like me do they think a Nobel is a wheeled dolphin going backwards? There was no French Fulda license attempt, was there? So something a bit different which ever way you look at it.

The petrol tank is from a Peugeot BB Sport. It has an Italian look about it though, so I see what you mean.

Hey all, (been a while!)

The bitza really was made out of bits of everything. The tank isn't from a BB sport, but off of a Motobecane SP50. The shape is the same, but the SP50 has 4 small "hooks" on the top (to mouns a small bag or something) and it has the petrol tap at the back *in the middle* (the SP50 tank doesn't go over a tube so the tap is in the middle).

The frame is from a Peugeot BB VCT (automatic granny moped), I adapted a 3 speed motor in it, made a hand gear lever system, motobecane mudguards, motobecane headlamp, motobecane headlamp fairing (fibreglass replica), and various other parts...

Just over a week ago, I done over 400km with it, and last weekend I done 200km with it. It goes well, and is reliable. I had a few minor problems (manifold got loose due to nuts loosening with vibrations, gear cables deadjusting, etc...), but other than that it's great!

you can see it being built up in this photo album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.220869224705107.1073741827.100003460947898&type=1&l=687937ceb5

(you don't need a facebook account to view the photos)

It will never be finished, because I will always find small things to put on it! I have a couple of long chrome exhausts, but I may keep them for something else...  ;)

Or more likely several creatures shot during Le Chasse and a string bag with the remains of a bottle of wine in it.
