Hotter than 1976?
« on: July 18, 2014, 03:05:36 PM »
Help. I'm melting! Just checked the temperatures indoors, 85f = 29.5c and outdoors in the sun, 107.6f = 42c. Can't find any shade! It feels, to me, hotter than 1976.
Looking at the photo I can see why my knees are failing now.

It certainly is a hot one . Question is of course what is your temperature outdoors in the shade ? That's the only one that's comparable with anything ?

IT IS IN THE SHADE. The sun was behind the shed, South West,  photo shows it now with the sun creeping northward.

I have the sun in my back garden all day 11 am to 9 pm  with it hiding behind the shed 4-5pm.

Problem is ...
It's not in the sort of shade used for standard measurement: in a vented, white-painted box, 2m above a grass surface, in the middle of a clear space, at twice the distance from nearby objects as those objects are high.

What it means is that the 'pond' temperature is indeed what you enjoy/suffer as you sit there, but isn't what counts towards the report on the evening news. In fact, we often experience temperatures significantly higher/lower than the 'officially' recorded ones.

Well all I can hope for now is strong winds, thunder, lightening and lots of rain for the coming six weeks all over the UK.  ;D

I'm currently in the Medway towns and it's very hot here. I don't know how hot, certainly not as hot as I had to endure in Texas, but still unpleasantly hot.

About 8.30 pm yesterday Squeak and I drove over to Grain to see the view of Southend's lights. There was an amazing sunset and cloud formations, including a long ribbon-like cloud across the southern sky. Ant then the storm started, with incredible lightning and thunder, driving rain, and an instantaneous change from flat calm to storm-force wind bringing leaves and twigs down from the trees. The aviation/navigation lights on the huge chimney at Kingsnorth power station were knocked out. We drove back to Strood through epic lightning displays right across the Isle of Grain and Medway, fantastic!

A few photos here, it was actually much darker than the camera has made it.

Nice photo's Marcus.
Thought occurred to me, now DUFF has gone you will now have to change your name to Captain Bubbleless!    :(

Yes, that occurred to me too! In the Fezheads I was originally Dura Fez (a noisy little git who never stops drumming!) , then Mega-Watts (after top gent Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones) then finally Captain Bubble when I bought DUF.

In my new duo I now have yet another stage name, I am the Plato half of Tinkerbell and Plato (not my idea!)

In the past I have also been Marcus D, and Big Brother Marcus,  in Big Brother Marcus And The Antique Sugar Bowl Brass Pig Band (NOT my idea!)

You are discussing the weather, not your appearance, right?

I mean, if Rob thinks he looks hotter than 1976, we need a current photo to compare to......
