1972 Regal 3/30
« on: December 30, 2014, 08:29:31 AM »
I brought this car the other day.  I have other things on the go so I need to get rid of at least one car.

Engine - Runs. Sounds good. Needs service.
Gearbox/clutch - seem ok. I have only used 1st and reverse so far.
Exhaust - Muffler shot. Pipes OK. Will probably mod and fit Rialto system like on my 3/25.
Chassis - looks good
A frame - looks good (not checked king pin play.
Tyres - old and need replacing. Wheel bearings not checked.
Brakes - none :D they only slow you down anyway.
Electrics - nothing works lol. Hotwire to coil and it starts on the ign switch. Need to check fuses, loose wires and all the other usual suspects.
Body - needs tidying (a lot). bit of filler and respray really, or get away with rat look.
Inside - no carpet. seat covers ok but dropped bases. door seals etc. need replacing. passenger door does not open and had inside handle broken. Windows stiff.

I am planning to spend most of tomorrow on the car and will get a better idea and try to get the electrics working first.

If any one is interested in having the car off me please let me know. The price will slowly rise as I fix things lol .

It is currently standing in Colchester. I have a trailer so can possibly help with transport. Not too far though.

Started to have a look at the electrics today.

There was no power getting through the charging regulator.
Getting 12V to terminal A but zero on A1. Unbolted the reg and found a broken wire in the back. Will post photo when I can connect the phone to the PC.
Repaired by soldering a piece of wire across the brake. Cleaned both relay contacts while I was in there. Connected it back expecting to find a short on the car some ware that caused the fault. It was OK.

Engine now starts on the ign switch. Doesn't seem to be charging. Job for later.

Tried to turn on the head lights. Getting power to switch but nothing out. Opened up the switch and cleaned all the fiddley bits. Just giving a final fiddle before putting it back together and one of the springs flew out, never to be seen again :x . Put back together with just the head light parts and no side lights. Still no lights. Cut out the floor dip switch. Completely seized up and would not come apart. Had a look on fleebay and ordered headlight and dip switch for £16.

car value now X + £16 :D

Sorry the Model 70s have gone.  I haven't got round to modifying my signature :-[

Stuart C had one, that I believe he sold to a disabled lady.

The other when to a chap near Ipswich.  I don't think he will ever sell it.

That must be the chap near Ipswich selling loads of cheap Model 70 spares on eBay.  I think he has three rolling chassis for sale as well.   8)

I reckon he is going to keep hold of his complete car  ;D ;D ;D
Poor old Frazer was trying to get one off of another (famous) forum contributor and it was valued at about a zillion pounds :)
Best the Ipswich chap :) keeps hold of his good car.

I am interested in your idea of joint purchase as long as what you don't want is not over market value.
Interesting things are what I like.

As for the Ligiers - I have one and wonder what the interest in trying to convert, converted cars back to petrol.  Just buy a petrol one from France?
Keeping them electric I can understand but they won't be usable and will have cost a fortune to sort out.

Wasn't part of the appeal that they were on the dvla records so could be put on uk roads without all the impossible type approval stuff?

Ah, Type 70, an object of desire. All rather amusing really, when you think back.

A bit tatty.  No carpets.  Seats all there but the bases sagged on front seats

Yes Barry has it.  You could try to get it off him.  I don't think he would sell.  He had a relative who worked for Invacar, so he has a personal connection.  He was looking for one for quite some time.
