Glad to have made your morning Richard.

Leatherette is a chemically produced imitation of leather. Some vinyl can be leatherette, then? Or is Leatherette a patented process? Snakeskin for Messerschmitts could be classed as leatherette, but is always called snakeskin, and is not patented. Not to be confused with leveret, which is only going to be small patches of hare.

This has gone quite far enough! I'm surprise Marcus hasnt chipped in, this is his thing usually. I guess he is still recovering from the gig.
I'm told he has formed a new band  "Marcus de Mohair and the Leatherettes"!

Rexine? That was by the Police, wasn't it. No idea if anyone choose to cover it later, Mink DeVille. Ermine's 'Ermits?, Dave Brock of Hawkwind or maybe some otter band, but it was very popular in its day.

I remember it being backed with a very stoat canvas.

Typical - what looks like a vegetarian-friendly seat material is ruined because they slaughter wee animals to make the backing canvas!

Surely the main use of Rexine was to cover the outside of Dansettes and Roberts radios?
