LSD actually stood for "Pounds, Sillings and Pence" , not for Lysergic Acid Diethylamide as it does now!

(For younger readers the £ is actually a stylised L, for Livre (Latin for pound) the D was from the Latin too: Denarii their equivalent of a penny.)
