Forgot about these two. One is from the road test in Autosport 11th January 1957 and I'd love to know the original source of the other one

that's illegal .
1. without going into all the do's and don'ts . basically you cant tow a three wheeler with a three wheeler .

and 2. the big one is there are 2 points of articulation . Totally illegal unless a member of the showman's guild .

The photos are from the 1950's and people towed broken-down cars with what they had.
In the 1960's I used to tow single motorcycles and cars that had broken down with my Panther combination with just a flimsy piece of rope. No problems from other motorists or the Men in Blue.

Dear Malcolm

In the Petite 2 image the car that is towing the trailer appears to have a different roof, like a coupe, which would suggest it has a shorter wheel base. Is it a prototype or a special tug built especially for moving cars from the factory to the AC cars showroom. Did Alan Bud comment upon this when you showed it to him?

Interesting observation.

AC stands for Auto Carriers. Their background was in commercial/industrial transportation. (I have driven an AC rail-car powered by two Gardner engines - in Essex!). They might well have registered the tow vehicle as a Tractor or Locomotive. It could then pull pretty much what it liked, and more than one of them. The top speed would be little less than the car version, but geared down for ease of carrying a load, none the less. In the same class as a Scamell Scarab. They would not be short of qualified drivers.

Mmm, is a Mini Comtesse a 5 wheeler, or a 3 wheeler. I'm off to go an tow armoured cars. Needle nardle noo.

Great newspaper photo! Al, I believe it was AC who made the trains for Southend Pier, also in Essex.

 Me.  ;)  That was one of several AC-related photos I turned up in a file of invalid carriage photos many years ago. Meanwhile, all these funny Petite-based cars and the related Buckland Runabout were featured by myself & Tony Marshall in a late-Tony-edited issue of RCN. 

 Tis all been done y'know folks, if only everyone would take notice that it has!
