THE OPEN DAY THIS YEAR IS TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY 27TH jULY. i HOPE MANY OF YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ATTEND WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR MICROCAR.
-
For all those who have asked, I can safely say, that all being well, the Mini-Comtesse WILL make it to the farm this year. ;D Form an orderly queue you lucky people you.....
-
Are you going to drive it there? That would be one hell of a test of man and machine!
As usual I probably have a gigs that w/e, but one is waiting to be confirmed, so there is a slight chance that I will be there, and yes Stuart I DO want a go!
-
Hi
I will be there with the Heinkel as well.
At last up and running again.
John
-

Well, foks. It's too early to know for sure, but it now looks like I might be able to get to the Open Day after all. If so I am actually thinking that I might bring my Drum Car along as lots of people have been asking to see it in action. The only problem is that it uses 2 car batteries to power it, and mine are both shot. I do not intend to buy 2 new ones just for one event, and I have no other outings planned for it this year. If anyone can bring an old battery with any power at all I should be able to get it going for a bit of fun. Hope I CAN make it, Marcus
-
Hi Marcus
I have a spare battery, it is quite old but never used, it should be O.K.
Let me know if you need it i will charge it up and bring it along.
Hope to see you there
john
-
I have been telling friends that I am bringing the Eccles to the event and there is quite a bit of interest and some have expressed an interest to come along. Is it open to the masses or is it a closed event? Entry fee?
-
Hi rokraider, it's open to the masses, no entry fee just turn up, 'the more the merrier'. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the progress you've made on the Eccles.
-
Thanks, John. I will let you know as soon as I know whether or not I can make it. look forward to meeting you and seeing your car, Marcus
-
Hope the Eccles CAN make it. I want to try & get the pair of them side-by-side if Jean will let me.... ??? :-*
-
Public announcement; The Mini-Comtesse WILL make it to the Farm this year. We have a van standing outside at this very moment & the Comtesse is already abourd.... ;D
-
All the best for your transaction Stuart.
Nice open day to all of you !!

DRUM CAR
BE VERY AFRAID !!!
It is 7.30pm. I have just downed tools and had BREAKFAST. The Drum Car is loaded and ready to head down to the Open Day tomorrow. It had not been used for 6-8 years and neede quite a lot of work.
John: I have managed to borrow two old batteries so do not trouble to bring yours along, but many thanks for the offer.
I think all who see it will agree that the infamous Drum Car is just about the most ridiculous contraption ever, and so far there have only a few minor fatalities!
-
Just checked the weather forecast for tomorrow and its looking good! See you all at the farm.
-
hadnt realised it was on tomorrow, but it is 187 miles away which would take about 5 hours in the Fox so too far anyway ;D
-
Next year I will make it for sure. I hope that the weather is remarkable and that everyone has a great time. I will be thinking of all the camaraderie from across the pond. Ian.
-
Well, we have just returned from yet another cracking day down at the farm! The highlight of the day for me was haveing a go on Marcus's drum car, it couldnt have been pleasent for everone else as I had a go at drumming at the same time. What a racket!!! Many thanks Jean for hosting a nice friendly low key event, just as we like it. The weather was fine too!.
-
It was my first outing with the Eccles. Thank you for making me feel welcome. It was a super, low key event, the weather was fantastic and I really enjoyed looking at the variety of Microcars and the brilliant Drum Car. The Inter looks even better in flesh...Lovely!
It was great to be able to put my Eccles alongside Jeans and see the differences (suprisingly few seeing they are different models).
Thank you Jean and family for organising a superb day out.
Hopefully see you all at the National with the Eccles sporting some bodywork. :)
-
Yes ,another great day out , After spending many hours restoring the Inter i hope Bobs not too upset by being upstaged by marcus's Drum machine! ( no the Inter was my highlight ,just )
Thanks to Stuart for letting me have a go in the Mini Comtesse ,and to all the attendees and assistants and Jean and family.
Weather was great for the journey down from Norfolk and the day at the farm, but a huge thunderstorm at the join of the M11 and A11 meant i had to park up for 10 mins ,there was so much water that there was a 'fog' about three feet off the ground wtih the spray of the rain drops! The Fiat 500 ran well even in the late afternoon heat and the deluge....
-
To the contrary Dave, having driven both, the drumcar wins hands down! The disappiontment of the day for me was the huge amount of my time taken up by the car mag photographer, I felt robbed of an afternoons microchat with the boys. Also forfieted my ride in Stuarts Minicomtesse yet again! Never the less wasnt it a good day?!!
-
Bob, Yes ,I can only agree with you about the press folk, I can remember being dragged agross the countryside at rediculous times in the morning to be filmed in my car only to watch the programme to find all the bits with my car in consigned to the cutting room floor!
At least it raises the profile of our hobby ,Hopefully you'll get a free copy of the mag in question....
-
The Inter wins hands down. I don't mean at RUM. I mean period. What micro comes close for the WOW factor?!(save a Trident as they'll always be my fave!) Bob's restoration is utterly peerless. The Interior is obscene!
But as a vehicle it is simply fantastic. The styling details are incredible. The rear ally vent is a work of art.
Then there's the starting procedure via a gyrostarter. Talk about unique!
I want one! Now what I have I got to sell to get one?!! Kidney anyone?!!!
-
Thanks Perry, what was the price we agreed for you to say all that? £20.00 wasn't it? Cheque's in the post! You want one even with obscene interior? Oh, you should have said. If I hear of anything that comes up I shall keep you posted, the main problem being that your kidney could be past its sell by date before we sniff one out.
-
the main problem being that your kidney could be past its sell by date before we sniff one out.
Oh don't say that! One will turn up. it's a waiting game...
With a bit of luck the 2000km from new one owner Inter will crop up in St Tropez. What a horrible place to spend a few days!! Dreaming again! Sigh.... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

From the day's (apparent) Officail Photographer, the first photos to be posted of Open Day 2008......

Huge thanks to the entire Hammond Family for such a fun, relaxing, friendly and happy day which Carla enjoyed as much as I did. I love Bob's Inter, Mike's Goggo Coupe, and it was great bumpy fun to drive a Comtesse and go for a spin in a Berkely. I only wish the day had been longer because I had to go before I even had a decent look/chat about the Eccles and the Honda Insight. I hope people were not too bothered by the occasional racket from my contraption, and Carla has now posted 2 short videos on you tube ( type in drumcar or drum car and you should find them), for anyone not yet sick of the sightand sound of it! look forward to next one.
-
Fantastic pics of Jeans open day mates. Its so sad its so far away from me. Wish i was there though!
all the best

Best day out for months

The Drum car vids on you tube are titled The Drumcar 1 and The drumcar 2. Bob Dobie and Alan Hitchcock both think the "Busker" drums sound similar to a Villiers engine !
-
Well said, John, a fantastic day out with glorious weather and some superb machinery. Jean & Co did a great job once again.
Nice to put faces to names we see on the Forum and to get a close-up of the restorations that we've been following.
The driving competition results were:
1. Hillary Kilbourn 78 points Cup
2. Ken Kimber 75 points Digital caliper
3. Cess 75 points (but longer time) Travel alarm clock
4. Jim Lugsden 74 points Model microcar
It was a closely-fought battle with all competitors bar the Fabulous Stuart using Jim's Reliant Fox
pick-up with the driver's door removed to make retrieval of the targets easier. The jury's still
out on the legality of this modification but as all competitors had the same advantage we'll let
that one go! Only Jim was present for the prize-giving at the end of the day so I'll make arrangements
to get the prizes in the post if the winners email me their postal addresses: nick_devonport@hotmail.com
will find me.
Thanks once again to all who made the day so enjoyable.
Regards
Nick D.

So just out of curiosity, what position did I & the Comtesse come in at, at the end of the day?
-
The disappiontment of the day for me was the huge amount of my time taken up by the car mag photographer, I felt robbed of an afternoons microchat with the boys.
Oh the price of fame!
Having already seen the Inter in action at Bath, I'd have to say rokraiders Eccles and Marcus's Drumcar did it for me on the day. Though I finally meet Mike Ayriss and put a few more names to faces. Just wish I'd taken a photo of John as he passed by in Stuarts Mini Comtesse, ;D roll on next year.

"Oh the price of fame!?" I know! Now I can sympathise with Lady Di ! Do I detect a note of jealous Mr Blob, you know what you have to do, spend six years or so restoring one of your Friskies and they will be lining up to photograph YOUR car! :-* :-* How long now have they been sitting dismantled in your garage? Too long!!

Great photo, the Inter Looks like a happy puppy :D
-
Yes I think its wagging its tail! Rokraider, how did you end up behind us on the m20 when you left before us?
-
Had to get some insulating tape to hold the number plate on the trailer (the heat melted the glue on the Velcro that I had used) and refuel the Jeep before risking getting caught in a traffic jam on the M25 etc. Jeep returned 17MPG which is quite satisfactory towing the bike trailer with the Eccles on it. Noticed a lot of people pointing at the Inter as they passed it, a couple were snapping photos as they went by you. Definitely heading for stardom! 8)
-
Great photos Stuart. It makes my heart ache for not being present. Looks as if everyone had a great time and a beautiful day. Ian.
-
Bob, don't forget there's some in the garden too, no! I'm not jealous, though a little green with envy . :-*

Hi Stuart
You are the hero propping up everyone else - someone had to do it, didn't they?
Your score was 46 points, not the slowest time but you only collected 4 targets.
It was good to see the Mini Comtesse at the Open Day, thanks for letting us drive
it. Hope you manage to sort out the braking system for the MoT.
Regards
Nick D.

BOB ....change of subject...
I looked at the microscope I told you about at the Open Day. "Cary" is engraved on the stem in script, and " London" in capitals. On the lid of the box there is a carved-in "C" monogram. You know your stuff !!
-
Hi Marcus. I told you from your desription that it was a Cary "type" and was worth a few bob, now you tell me its actually a signed Cary, its worth more than a few bob! About knowing my stuff, we all have our specialist subjects, for instance you play the drums a whole lot better than I do as we found out on sunday! I would like to see a picture of the botanical microscope some time. Cheers, Bob

This sounds interesting folks, Are we about to witness Marcus being converted into a millionaire we wonder? :o One never knows what's coming up next on this forum! Stay tuned folks for the next thrilling instalment of the RUMCars Micro Soap Opera.......
