Mystery French Microcar TOMCAR
« on: November 12, 2009, 02:50:53 PM »
someone in France sent me some pics of a "TOMCAR" he found in the barn of a home he recently purchased and wanted to know what it was and how to go about selling it.
I tried to get him to register to post here, but so far he has not appeared, so here is his message and some pics:

Quote
"hello,
further to my request for help with my "barn find",
i was told that the car was manufactured by ligier,
ligier told me that this was not so.
so,back to you,any information you could let me have about this vehicle
would be greatly appreciated.
manufacturer details, years manufactured, how many built etc etc,
in fact any information you could let me have at all greatly welcome.
thanks again in anticipation,
vincent hearne."

I know nothing of the car.  Anyone else know anything about this gem?

I suggest directing him to this site to post his questions:

http://microcafan.xooit.fr/index.php

Yes, that's the correct spelling for the URL, even though the site itself is called FORUM MICROCARFAN.

Dear Jim

I know a little about the Tom car if that helps.

It was shown in October 1981 at the French motorcycle show (salon du Cycle et du Motocycle) with a 2 stroke 49 cc Peugeot engine. At the French motor show in 1982 it was shown with the additional 2 stroke 125cc BCB A51 engine. By 1984 it was also available with a 4 stroke 325cc Lombardini diesel engine, by 1985 it had stopped production.

The vehicles were made at 15 rue de Catillon 60130 Saint Just en Chaussee, France in two body styles, a cabriolet and a saloon and available in three colours, Blue, red and Beige.

The top speed for the 49cc was about 40 Km/hr, for the Diesel was about 48 Km/hr, and the 125 was said to be 70 km/hr but probably needed a good tail wind.

I have no idea how many were made.

I hope this has been of assistance
