And you thought the days of the good old cheap barnfinds where over!
This is the Messerschmitt we found 10 years ago, but the guy didnt want to sell it. Yesterdazy, we went to a car meeting in the Nobel, on the way back, I asked my dad if we can go see the schmitt. He said ok, since we lost the pics, and I didnt even know what colour it was!
Luckily I asked, since usually when I ask, my dad says no, and this time, the owner said a guy popped round 2 days earlier, offering him 800 euros! Luckily he refused, we bought it for a tiny bit more.
It is chassis number 50213, 3rd oldest known!
It appears to have been resprayed, looking cloesly you can see overspray, abnd the guy did say the previous owner rolled it. That probably explains the broken dome, but it also has a different door, you can see original red paint under the cream.
All seems ok condition for the way its been kept, in a barn for 57 years! Rusty floor, a few dents, rust, respray, bent ali, but what do you expect!
We noticed a load of differences, all seem original, since its early. You can see it has a 175 air filter, early boot, different placement for the choke, my dad has never seen that before, in his 30 years of schùmitt experience, early rubber mat with the big eagle emblem (my dad heard of them, but ever seen any), low bonnet stay (quite lower than usual, so you cant lift it as much), weird brackets holding the boot, unusual way to hold the rear seat, my dad hasnt seen it either before, double front bumper, made out of 2 seperate pieces of ali, very unusual pocket on the front seat, my dad makes interior sets for the schmitts, and has never seen it, same for the interior covering the inside lof the boot, early door lock, rounded, not hooked, and a few more differences that are orignial, like some parts bolted, not welded (seems originally done)
Well, enjoy the pics!
(in a few replies, since I can only reply with 4 pics each time)
