Unusual here, but not that unusual in Germany or India -

Tempos were built in India in the same way that Morris Oxfords became the Hindustan Ambassador. A 'tempo' is actually a generic term in parts of India (and in Nepal) for a larger 3-wheeler, in the same way that 'auto' or 'autorickshaw' is a generic term for the 3-wheeled Bajaj taxi.

When we were in India in January 2007 I didn't see any over there, but I remember that only certain parts of the country use them - Previously I've seen most in Calcutta and Rajastan.

I have quite a few photos of them on my Indian triporteurs site

I used to be in touch with the Tempo club in Germany; they usually have one or two for sale. Restored ones are quite expensive, ie around £5000+

Last time I checked (about a year ago) there was a German company importing new Indian ones and converting them to catering trucks. I'll see if I can find the link for it.

This is the tempo we travelled in when we stayed at Sheesh Mahal (the palace in the background) in 1994. Fabulous room at the top, giant sunken marble bath-tub, etc but typically a powercut the night we stayed.
Most memorable was the toilet - a shed built onto the outside wall of this attic room; when you were sitting on the wc you looked through the holes in the floor to see the ground very far below.
