Title: villiers 11E scooters/ invacars / scootacars
Post by: richard on August 01, 2012, 08:35:51 pm
sorry stuart thanks for the reference but i dont think any British Trials bike of the era had electric start - far too heavy ! also no trials bike would want fan cooling , so why choose an 11E . the catalogue or bike itself must have been incorrect .

Villiers Singles & Twins by Roy Bacon only makes brief mention of the 11E :

The 9E continued in use for a good number of years with little alteration but was fitted with a revised gearchange in 1961. it also appeared as the 11E for scooter use and , in its various forms, ran on into the late 1960's.

Question does anyone know what if any two wheeler or indeed three wheeler used the 11E , i can find no mention in my books of any two wheeler . there was reference on this forum of an owner being sure his scootacar was originally fitted with 11E and not 9E.
does anyone have pics of the 11E and cowling - thanks  :)

I don't know much about the Villiers engines but I suppose we need to start looking at the British scooters fitted with them.

Ambassador - 173cc
Bond P2, P3 & P4 - 197cc (& 150cc)
Dayton - 175cc, 224cc & 247cc
DKR - 147cc, 197cc
DMW - 175cc & 247cc
Excelsior - 147cc & 197cc
Harper - 197cc
Oscar - 197cc
Panther - 173cc
Phoenix - 147cc, 250cc (& 325cc)
Sun - 173cc
Wabo (Holland) 147cc

And more................

I can't find a reference to anything with an 11E listed as standard other than invalid carriages. FWIW the Bond P2 & P4, DKR Defiant and Progress 200 Britannia all had fan cooled 9E's. Anyone got the Mick Walker book on Villiers?

MkII scootacar

Another curiosity from the small ads is one from 28 June 1962 from Motor Cycle. "Meeten's for Scootacars - See the new de luxe "Clover Leaf" 200cc"
