This must be rare but so are potential buyers.

wow as you say bob . someone could be very happy indeed to have that but who - can anyone pass this on to alan budd ? jean ? chris ?
-
i see it now has a bid at the starting price of £ 99 someone couldn't hold themselves back ;)
actually surprised that there are a few petite bits on ebay too - it's an uncommon engine i think
-
hope this found the right home - it would be nice to hear the outcome wouldn't it
-
The seller said that the new owner has 3 Petites and is very happy to have gotten it for the lowest possible price.
That means that it most likely ended up in the best possible hands, as Alan Budd is the only one that I can think of that could qualify in that regard.
I was very frustrated until I realized this, as my 1956 Petite needs a transmission and pulley wheel to be able to run again.
I already had the entire floor and some frame members professionally re fabricated, and got the engine going, before I found this out. Hence, the major reason for my interest. The spares would be nice to have, but the tranny is do or die for my car.
That is why I bid on it. Unfortunately unbeknownst to both the seller and myself, a new policy of E Bay UK is to block bids from outside the UK if the item for sale is listed as "for pick up only". So my bids that were substantially higher got blocked even though I have a good friend in Rumcars who lives but 20 miles from the seller, and is in charge of loading a container for shipment to me.
I 'm glad that Alan is now in charge of these spares as there is no one else who has put so much into saving these cars.
Alan has been very generous with his time and resources with me in the past. I am just afraid that he has not checked his email lately, and will complicate a potential win win here if he picks up all the parts and removes the transmission to a place further away from my friend. I am happy to pay a reasonable premium for his help, but can't phone him to let him know it.
-
just phoned alan on your behalf - he willing to discuss .picking it up in a couple of weeks time. he has a new email alanfbudd@gmail.com he hoped the old email would link across but some haven't- do email him
-
i now gather that following my help steve and alan have sorted something out between them - as steve said these parts are essential to further his Petite project . apparently he bid for the engine but as the vendor put collection only ebay filtered out his bid from u.s. - unbeknown to all !! actually he bid as he had a contact near the vendor and collection wouldn't have been a problem . vendors be aware
-
I had this very same problem on eBay.de, the vendor agreed to ship to the UK if I won, but found he couldn't reverse the option to international, after the bidding had begun and my bids were blocked. >:(
-
One simple around this if you are blocked, is to go to your ebay account and change the shipping address to be in the country you wish to bid in, then bid, and then remember to change the address back to your real shipping address after bidding. This works in 99% of the times. Only problem is that in the event that you do win it, you still have to make arrangements to have it picked up, shipped or play dumb. In the meantime correspond with the seller and tell him you have bid but the shipping address will be different. Ask him if there will be problem with that. This way at least you have the bid done. Ian.

I guess that means that there are more engines than cars at this point.
Its proof of the theory of survival of the greasiest.
