i think we've been here before . i have a monkey metal , mazac is it ? ,front grill on the Gordon repaired with filler so cannot be chromed . what finish would be best ? thanks

It is possible to get it vacuum plated so that it looks like chrome.
The process involves getting the piece as smooth and polished as possible.
Lacquer coat
Aluminium vapour deposited in a vacuum chamber
Hard lacquer coat to finish.
There is a chrome spraying process (looks like chrome) but I think it looks a bit cheap and nasty. OK for unobtainable items that have been repaired with filler and cant be chrome plated - like yours.

never heard of the former - interesting - but sure to be far too expensive . a name for the latter ?

Vac plating in Kent

I will try to find out the name of the chome spray. A local body shop (and moped restorer) was going to invest in the gear to do it. I saw some samples and could understand some uses but the quality was not as good as real chrome.
Could be this:-
