Title: This looks very similar... Good for me? And is it a Micro?
Post by: Jonathan Poll on August 13, 2011, 12:57:24 PM
Hello,

This looks very similar to the Nobel! I know they didnt copy it, since there are quite a few difference, but the front is virtually a spit image!

Is it a micro?

Yes its a Micro, I believe (and someone may prove me wrong) that this is a Gill Getabout which was a company that took over the rights to the JARC/ Astra van, planning to make a car (and taxi!!) version. They were made in the very late 50's and had an Anzani 322cc engine so technically a Micro. Don't think they were a great success and doubt if there will be any left.

Just taken a look at my Micro library, and consultated Tony Marshalls first "microcars" book. Sure enough it is a Gill Getabout, built in Paddington, London and production was short lived by all accounts. The chassis and Mechanicals were taken from the Astra/ JARC and the Gill coachbuilders produced two designs. A two seater (as per your picture) with a four seater produced in the hope of selling them as taxis, although regulation meant that it was to small for this purpose. There are no recorded survivors.

Well, since I am one of the biggest anoraks around, I look really deep into that type of thing ;)

See pic attached, I had the original, a Nobel, and just edited the original. Back is like a goggo, but front is like a Nobel. Al I done is make it a bit lower and brought the nose a bit lower too.

If we mixed them and I said it was like a Nobel, would LightweightDickie still notr see the ressemblence?

Wonder if its true that they actually buried Nobels next to a motorway?
