Needs a lot of work but apparently comes with loads of parts.

Reserve not met at about £4500. I wonder what silly reserve it had?

Not sure where the reserve was but the reserve may have been very appropriate. A good Janus project is hard to find. Perhaps it was another case where you could not tell if all the parts were there - certainly some pics were added late and I could not see all major items.

On the basis cars are worse than the pictures and we have a softening market you have to really want a Janus over that sort of price. I habitually bought cars like this as they used to be 'cheap' and the parts could be got at autojumble. Now, like a hepped up house, they contain hope value which I do not care to pay for and spares are expensive. No longer in the market for such things but I am happy to watch!

Does not seem expensive to me relative to other micros and these are rare cars. Could be a good deal but asking price unknown. Expect it may now be sold. When I was looking for my Janus it was not easy to find a decent car for restoration. Not cheap to restore but well restored cars are rarely seen on the market.

Theres been quite a few project ones in recent years, but you're right, out of that I think only one was well restored, great cars with quite good performance too.

I find it is a very fgood price. What is a finished one worth? 20-25k?
Surely doesnt cost too much for a resto, maybe 3k?

If I could get my Isetta restored for less than 6k I would be very happy - and it's a runner that has never been taken apart.
I suppose it depends how much you cost your own labour hours at?

Are re-con cranks and new pistons available yet?
The engine has a known weakness so a good one is as important as having a floor in the car. Many folk have started to restore a Zundapp but not many finish one! A shame as they drive well assuming you understand the requirements of the power unit - see LBL Rally results both times. If not it does not last very long. Not idiot proof with lots of spares available like a Goggomobil. I would suggest they are more akin to restoring a Tiger requiring attention to detail and talking to folks to find parts needed. Would I want a finished Zundapp at £25k, no, I will have the money to invest in cheaper crappier cars please. Therefore, as the saying has it, 'I'm out'.

Highest offer nearly 400 Euro more than last time, it still hasn't reached its reserve. How much would I offer if it was for sale close by? Hmmm, hard to say. It needs a lot of work.

Looks like the market has spoken. Uneconomic rebuild so you have to want it.

I'm suprised really, because it didnt look as bad as a lot of projects! It may be rusty, but I'm sure you can get some panels made for a decent price!
My Nobel is in similar condition! Horrible floor (but on a Nobel its just a flat piece of plywood, easy to replace), its bodged, unlike the Zundapp that seems bad but all original, mine has been repainted and a lot of parts replaced, and I have a LOT of gel coat cracks!

All I got was a used reindeer. The antlers ruined the stocking too. I hate Christmas.

I hate Christmas too.  Har Bum-bug!

Santa got stuck down my central heating stack last year and cooked his feet. We had them for Christmas dinner, it took ages to suck the meat off the bones.

What we thought was stuffing turned out to be a mixture of toasted sock and toe jam.

It's taken a year to get the heating working again. Just finished it today. Cor, I feel like a sweating pig.  ;D

My provisional Christmas wish list:

1. To locate the electrical fault which constantly drains the battery in the PL17.
2. To find in the UK all panels needed to restore the rusty LP400, without having to drive to Germany to pick them up.
3. A completely original or a fully restored Zündapp Janus, or any Zündapp Janus for that matter.
4. All the other things which are even more important.

The Panhard fault might be in Plympton which I think is PL17?

Might be a burned out switch if 12V from 6V. Had this trouble on several machines where there is to much currant passing a switch without a relay to protect it.

My chrismtas wish list:

1: Get the Nobel body out and start working on it.
2: Get panels for my schmitt, and start getting a few extra parts from the loft on it, like enginew frame, axles etc.
3. Get another or a couple project micros. I find its best for me to buy them while I'm young. They are still rare, but available, when I'm older they will all be restored and expensive.
4. My Go Kart to work. It would be really fun riding it in the snow. If only it worked!

Wings for birthday, boot, Chrimbo next etc etc. Would it were that easy. Stuff comes when it comes. Like tonight when I have a garage to check out for clearance quote. Two Schmitts in it to my knowledge.

It has a boot, and a petrol tank! Front seat aswell!

I will either get a pair of wings from the barn, but they will need a lot of repairing, or get new ones from the club. There not crazy money. I think it was 130 pounds each, but compared to the price of a finished car thats nothing.

Pass my number on to the garage owner, I should be able to give a better price than you!

From whom's point of view? Might do as I am not really looking for more Schmitts and they are likely to be more than I wish to pay. Then again he might ask me to place them. Meeting re arranged to midweek due to MEC AGM looking like taking to long to do both tasks. It did.

I think a burned out switch is very likely as there is some dodgy electrics. It has always been 12V, though. Right, where did I keep that multimeter?
