Title: Steam Extravaganza - Cirencester
Post by: Rusty Chrome (Malcolm Parker) on August 06, 2012, 10:31:45 AM
Perhaps not a huge amount in the microcar division, but a fantastic event nevertheless. Given the size of the airfield they were using though I just wish they'd put a little bit more space between some of the vehicles - especially the motorbikes!

I love that DOT milk float! Two pints of gold top please! Looks like it was a good show.

This is what used to be Down Ampney. Cirencester than had an event in the centre of the town and Bernard Stratfield organised a Micro class which run well till it moved out to Kemble, eventually to the airfield itself. Towards the end they got pretty hostile towards our taking a stand and then Kemble itself put up the rental of the site finishing off that as a venue for cars in favour of flying. Meanwhile South Cerney - older Burfordites will remember that name from days gone by and when I used to be involved in the running about - has established itself, and with Wroughton eclipsed as well, seems to have become about the biggest do in that area. The ebbs and flow of events, tiffs and costings.

Nice pix of unusual vehicles, I too like the DOT, also the DKW, not one I know. The Brumax is an odd creation, is it a souped up Lomax?

Yup, unfair reg no, and oddly enough YUK is the same as on the Morris J Type Commercial Ice Cream Van I saw in Bermondsey last week.

I was expecting the DKW to be a minibus, but it was fitted out with a wooden van like space at the rear and was carrying a small DKW motorbike. I also really liked the DOT but thought he'd gone a little bit overboard on the accessories. Not quite as overboard as the van that was fitted out as a milking parlour including fake cow, but you know what I mean.

An ideal excuse to be offering little sachets of 'powdered milk' to long haired weirdos like me. Sounds completely bonkers. Was he from Milton Keynes?

Is the DKW related in any way to the Lloyd van which seems to be of similar size?
