again great fun to build in kit form 650 ohv 4 stroke bsa engine
-
Did they ever sell any? For a lot of years, a lot of Micronauts have looked, and so for, nothing!
Mmmm. Electron. Still fancy one of those and while rare they do come up so maybe once I have moved and cleared up a bit that might be looked for. Would not be against a Turner either.
-
Very nice, I had not seen the Electron before.
-
The Electron featured a number of versions through a long availability. As finished items they also covered from atrocious to stunningly effective club racers. In line with the light weight construction they were at their best presented as screamers. Austin Healeys used to run and hide when one of these showed up. Just exactly the kind of car that no longer exists on the market.

Fairthorpe Atom 1954
-
Now that is one ugly car.
-
agreed but of the times - i love them all and would dearly love to own one - if not necessarily drive one ;)
-
Ugly but somewhat endearing, vaguely like that old "Ugly Duckling" Audi in the TV ads. Looks to be beaten aluminium.
-
perhaps thats the nub of it all !! to be an UNUSUAL microcar it helps if you are ugly and unloved . if you were good looking then perhaps you wouldn't be so UNUSUAL . perhaps RUMS have to be unloved - aaah :'(

Hmm. Wonder what the Wagonette version looked like?
-
Here's a link to a clip from the 1956 film Checkpoint which features glimpses of the Atom (from around the 5:00 minute mark). If you watch to the end, it might explain why none survive today.

Got any you would like to add?

In the Pathe film the people against the car make it look huge.

Yes, but those were post-war folk who thought rationed food was, if not ample, at least enough. But if three average 1950s men fitted in it, two average 2010s probably would just.
-
So they were made and they are out there. Yet we never see one. Odd. Though all Fairthorpes seem to be very hard to find. Is there a group of people sitting on collections of them or something?

Fairthorpe Atom 1954
One of our friends used to own a Fairthorpe prototype, I showed him that picture and he thinks it was that one!
He said he bought it when he was young, but ended up leaving it in the rented garage, and never saw it since. I guess I wouldnt want to see it again either ;D

Here is a link to the Fairthorpe blog in which you will find all things Fairthorpe www.fairthorpe.blogspot.com
