Title: helicoil
Post by: plas man on August 11, 2015, 03:10:57 PM
advice needed on Helicoil in alloy casing , what happens is , on removal of the wheel nuts the stud comes out , the thread in the alloy hub is not damaged - but with regular removal its getting easier , would it help to use Loctite to hold the stud into the alloy or would the seal break and damage/strip the thread's - resulting in having to Helicoil ?

I would certainly NOT advise Retainer/Retaining Fluid such as Loctite 603 !

I regularly use Loctite 243 Threadlocker on all manner of mechanical things, great stuff but not sure if it's good for your purpose

I would use one of the bearing grade retainer Loctite's. Unlikely to come out again without applying heat or soaking in acetone.

thanks for the advice guy's , I'll give it a try when the hubs come off to check the brake linning's , and if it goes wrong it can be Helicoiled at a later date .
